Sometimes it can be fun to venture out and try something new; it was at Anka Grill!  You really cannot eat Italian food EVERY day; you would be sick of anything if you had it all the time.  Opened in January 2014, this casual spot on Lexington in midtown was opened by Levent Arik, the sole owner who hails from Turkey.  On our initial visit, we were happy with his commitment to his native cuisine, and we tried above as an appetizer the Baba Ganoush.  Otherwise known as roasted eggplant puree, Turkish tahini, garlic and lemon, we reveled in its simplicity.  It is much more delicious than it looks (it looks a bit like oatmeal to us.)  You dip the bread (pictured below) in it.  Or we did, anyway.  Peachy's not Turkish.
Another adventuresome choice under appetizers was Eggplant with sauce, another seemingly healthy choice.  Small pieces of eggplant in mildly spicy sauce of fresh tomatoes, green peppers, red peppers, onions and garlic again announced that less is more and this was another delicious combination.
The Greek salad was everything we were looking for right down to the dressing on the side.  Generous chunks of tomatoes, cucumber, onion, greek feta cheese, and kalamata olives were fresh and we were happy with the quality.  Anka Grill is market-style, meaning you go to the counter and order and bring it to an empty table; there are no waiters or maitre d's.  Totally casual...we were looking for the bar but we believe this is a dry spot.  Peachy usually likes to sip a little glass of knockout red during this process.
Here's what their fresh bread looks like, but the resident pizza-monster-in-chief of Whom You Know found that the Sucuklu Pide looked quite a lot like pepperoni pizza, and tasted that way in a much more artisanal way.   Essentially it is flatbread stuffed with Turkish sausage and the cheese just seals the deal.  Anka Grill is Terrific Takeout!
