CEA’s Karen Chupka Receives Prestigious IAEE Award International CES SVP recognized as IAEE’s 2015 Woman of Achievement
The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)® congratulates Karen Chupka, senior vice president, International CES and corporate business strategy, CEA, for being named the winner of the 2015 International Association of Exhibitions and Events’ (IAEE) Woman of Achievement award. The award recognizes a candidate who has led the way in the advancement of women in the exhibitions and events industry, exhibited outstanding leadership, and made significant contributions to the industry and her community. CEA owns and produces the annual International CES®, the world’s gathering place for all who thrive on the business of consumer technology.
“Karen’s vision and strategic skills have helped establish the International CES as the annual gathering place for the global technology industry and the greatest show on earth year after year,” said Gary Shapiro, president and CEO, CEA. “Karen inspires us all to reach higher, do better and collaborate with those who think differently. She is a true woman of achievement, a shining example of a tradeshow industry leader – male or female. I congratulate her for this well-deserved honor.”
Chupka’s dedication to the advancement of women in the technology and exhibitions and events industries is evidenced by the comprehensive involvement of women in producing the International CES and in directing CEA’s policies. Fifty percent of CEA’s senior staff is made up of women and almost half of all vice presidents and higher at CEA are women. More, all of Chupka’s direct reports who make up her CES strategic team are women.
Chupka began her career at CEA in 1989, and left only briefly in 1998 to work for GartnerGourp before returning. She was named vice president, events and conferences in 2000 and since then, the International CES has grown to become the largest global hands-on showcase of emerging innovation, serving as an inspiration to the greater exhibition and events industry. The 2015 CES wrapped as the largest show in history with more than 2.2 million net square feet of exhibit space – up 100 percent from the 1.1 million net square feet at the 2000 CES. More than 170,000 attendees convened at the 2015 CES, up 39 percent from the 120,000 attendees at the 2000 CES. CES also has been named as the largest annual North American tradeshow by Tradeshow Executive Magazine and Tradeshow Week since 2001.
During her 26 year tenure with CEA, Chupka has held numerous roles including vice-president, business development, director of industry relations and education, and director of marketing for CES.
Chupka will be honored during the IAEE Women’s Leadership Forum held April 8, 2015, in Washington, D.C.
The 2016 CES returns to Las Vegas, Nevada, Wednesday, January 6-Saturday, January 9, 2016. For more information, visit www.CESweb.org.
