David Villa, Jason Hernandez Named to Major League Soccer Team of the Week (Week 15)
New York City FC forward David Villa and defender Jason Hernandez have been named to the Major League Soccer Team of the Week for Week 15.
The pair were instrumental in the Club's 3-1 victory over the Montreal Impact in front of 24,042 on Saturday night at Yankee Stadium. Villa had a goal and an assist, while Hernandez had seven clearances and six interceptions in the middle of defense.
Villa's team-leading fourth goal of the season put New York City FC ahead 1-0 in the 31st minute.Tommy McNamara crossed from the left side toward Patrick Mullins. Mullins calmly laid the ball off to Mehdi Ballouchy, who fired it across the box to a sprinting Villa as the forward slotted it home. Villa was also instrumental in the Club's final goal -- crossing the ball from the left side across the box to Kwadwo Poku in the 90th minute.
Poku and Mullins earned spots on the MLS Team of the Week (Week 15) bench.
Poku had a goal and an assist in just 15 minutes on the field -- finding Mix Diskerud for the Club's second goal of the night in the 76th minute then scoring the first MLS goal of his career in stoppage time. Mullins was key up top, especially in the buildup to Villa's finish.
