David Villa Nominated for Major League Soccer Goal of the Week (Week 15)

New York City FC forward David Villa has been nominated for Major League Soccer Goal of the Week for Week 15.

The New York City FC captain's finish in the 31st minute put the home side ahead as the Club beat the Montreal Impact 3-1 in front of 24,042 on Saturday night at Yankee Stadium. Midfielder Tommy McNamara sent a low cross from the left side to Patrick Mullins near the 6-yard box. The forward one-touched it back to midfielder Mehdi Ballouchy, who sliced the ball across the box toward a streaking Villa, who slotted it home.

It was Villa's team-leading fourth goal of the season.

“Impressive, impressive goal," head coach Jason Kreis said. "I think we had created a couple of chances before that which were really quite nice chances as well. At the end of it all, I think that the number of chances that we created and the way we created those chances was a glimpse of what we’re after.”

Also nominated for the Week 15 honor are: Diego Fagundez (New England), Federico Higuain (Columbus), Sebastian Lletget (Los Angeles) and Lamar Neagle (Seattle).

Voting runs until 11:59 p.m. PT on Thursday.
