Peacock Cafe is a lovely spot in Georgetown owned by brothers Shahab and Maziar Farivar, who hail from Iran and came to the United States in 1978 and studied in San Francisco. Shahab, the host, graciously greeted us when we arrived, however we did not meet Maziar, the chef, as he was not available. They are committed to serving good, quality cuisine and their menu does not change often we were told: their menu is a reflection of their Persian heritage based on Maziar's interpretation we understand. This is our first feature on this venue. When asked where the name of the restaurant is derived from, Shahab told us that the menu is as colorful as a peacock, and they are as proud as a peacock.
When we visited, the artwork display was by an elderly art program (we like the flag!) and the art does change periodically. There's upbeat contemporary music that plays in the background, at an ideal volume to create buzz without being intrusive. Seating areas are spacious and nearly 100 are inside with an additional three dozen outside. We noticed there were three restrooms-two for women, one for men. We are of the sex that prefers those bathroom odds!
One terrific aspect of the Peacock Cafe is their Juice menu. Served in a chilled glass with no ice, 12 oz juices are quite a healthy component to your meal. We loved the "Power of 'C'" shown above: orange, grapefruit, lime and strawberry. It was invigorating and delicious, and you should try it.
The Peacock Cafe has earned accolades for their Pistachio Soup, so we agreed to try it.
The picture is not as evocative as the flavor; the Pistachio Soup has components of citrus and cream that works surprisingly well and is additionally flavored with a ground pistachio garnish. The oranges they use for this soup are Sevilla from Spain and the appetizer boasts a smooth texture highlighted by a delightful quiet crunch that will make you smile. It's a unique experience.
It's no secret that the seafood-eater-in-chief here loves shrimp, so for the entree, we chose the familiar to contrast with the appetizer. The entree title: Shrimp and Lobster Spinach Tagliatelle. You'll revel in the amazing saffron-lobster cream sauce appropriately dotted with sweet peas. Beautifully arranged, this was equally delicious. It's a lovely color combination as well. The seafood components were entirely fresh and the sauce was just the right amount.
We enjoyed a lovely glass of this robust red with our meal, recommended by Shahab. We enjoy the power of wine just as much as the power of C!
Our Peacock Cafe experience was complete with a slice of carrot cake.
And with the coffee, they even had skim milk which was impressive (it's the only way Peachy likes coffee...)!
