It's not who you know, it's WHOM YOU KNOW and we are so glad to now know both George and Nectar.  This is our first Nectar review and it's a fabulous diner on the Upper East side with two locations, one on Madison and 79th which opened in 1975 and a second location at 1090 Madison Avenue at 82nd, which is the location we visited owner George Kyrkostas, who has a superlative personality and is exactly the kind of person that should be in the restaurant business!  George is from Greece and moved here in 1970; he went to school for business administration and almost became an accountant...
If you go to The Met, this is the best and closest spot around to have a bite to eat.  Everyone that has been reading for the last seven years knows we have published on every single exhibit of The Met since the inception of Whom You Know; we love them!  As you know in the best cases our reviews are mirrors of what Peachy wants to feature and also what the owner wants to feature (and Peachy subsequently likes).  The appetizer George said we had to try was his Garlic Hummus and it was spot-on delicious.  Peachy is not even a big fan of this dish in general but she was a very big fan of it at NECTAR.
Finely chopped olives grace a magnificent mountain of chickpeas that are super ready for you to dip the hot, freshly made pita into.  During the summer months, the pita thinks it's doing a cannonball off a diving board into this pool of goodness.  The pita and the hummus is made fresh at Nectar every day.  We cannot wait to eat this again and we loved the garlic accent.  On days when you feel like it is too hot to eat, consider this.
The crabby editor-in-chief always has an eye out for crabcakes, and note that they are not always good at diners.  The one we tried at Nectar hit the spot with its crisp golden brown crust.  It was highlighted by reduced balsamic vinegar and corn, red pepper and guacamole.
Here is is smiling at you.
Here it is after Peachy's fork attacked it!  It was a classic done well.
How often do you see an amuse-bouche at a diner?
We haven't before we met George and Nectar!
The Mykonos Salad was exactly what we were looking for in terms of a green salad.  The chopped romaine was well-chopped and the fresh dill was out of this world!  Scallions, feta cheese, tomatoes, olives, red wine vinegar and olive oil teamed up for a nutritious winner that is a generous size as well.  You will not ever leave Nectar hungry.
Nectar had such an extensive menu we decided on two entrees because they are serious about their cuisine, and superior to most diners.  George's son, Nick, is the Executive Chef and a graduate of the CIA.  The first entree is Shrimp Scampi over rice, and the shrimp arrives from Capricorn Seafood in Jumbo size.  Both entrees were the ultimate in comfort food and we absolutely adored the white wine butter garlic lemon sauce that these shrimps waltzed in.
If you've read us before you've heard us go on and on about how much Peachy Deegan loved the Boston College Chicken Parm (as did everyone else).  We were super lucky to have excellent food for all of our Chestnut Hill years and we don't know too many other people that miss their school food (except people we went to BC with of course).  Because of the long commute to 02167, we try to find great places in Manhattan that do chicken parm just as well and Nectar made the grade!  They even give you two portions, and we cannot WAIT to eat this again someday.
Nick makes his own tomato sauce and the gigantic portion of chicken parm comes with a side of pasta, also sporting this great sauce.
Would we like cheese?
Yes please.
Cheese always makes everything better!
Nectar is definitely Terrific Takeout!
We are so glad George did not become an accountant.
