David Villa Nominated for Major League Soccer Goal of the Week for Week 24

New York City FC forward David Villa has been nominated for Major League Soccer Goal of the Week (Week 24), the league announced.

Villa scored off a sublime pass from Andrea Pirlo in the 80th minute of the Club's 3-1 comeback victory over D.C. United on Thursday night at Yankee Stadium. It was Villa's 14th goal of the season.

Pirlo played a pinpoint perfect pass from midfield ahead of an on-rushing Villa. After two bounces, the captain gained possession at the top of the 18-yard box despite being flanked by a pair of defenders and fired home the go-ahead goal to the near post.

Kwadwo Poku sealed all three points with his goal eight minutes later in the win over the top team in the league and Eastern Conference.

Villa, who has 10 goals in the last nine matches, was also nominated for the Week 24 accolade along with Nat Borchers (Portland), Obafemi Martins (Seattle), Pedro Morales (Vancouver) and Paulo Nagamura (Sporting KC).

Voting ends at 11:59 p.m. PT on Thursday.
