It's not who you know, it's Whom You Know and we are delighted to now know Bruno Selimaj, owner of the relatively new Lincoln Square Steak, which has been open since January 15, 2015. This is its inaugural feature, and our first review with Bruno, whom we were impressed with. Hailing from Albania, Bruno Selimaj came to New York in 1971 and has been active in the Manhattan restaurant business for some decades now. From 1978-2008 he was the proprietor of Bruno restaurant, which changed its name in 2008 to become Club A Steakhouse, which he owns as well. If you know Club A (we do not yet), you should know that Lincoln Square Steak is the same concept with a different name and location. They're not kidding on their website when it says at the top that the Upper West Side needed a Traditional Steakhouse; we absolutely concur. We were delighted with the popover beginning: a nice, fresh touch.
Peachy, as your "fairy godmother", is going to grant you three wishes so to speak to lift your spirits!
The wishes will come in review form for literal ideas on how to cheer yourself up after such a loss. Avid readers know that the right dinner makes us quite happy!
Wish one to improve your day is to visit Lincoln Square Steak.
Less is more in most success stories, and that is true of the Heart of Lettuce and Tomato Salad at Lincoln Square Steak. Iceberg lettuce is perfectly sliced in half and the LSS house dressing was on the side, as requested.
Peachy Deegan love, love, loves crab. Our favorite way to be crabby is to eat it and the Crab Meat cocktail at Lincoln Square Steak is absolutely sublime. The crustacean arrives from Slavin and Sons, and we loved every bite of this fresh wonder. Gorgeous lumps of decadent crab greet you and we suggest you eat them standalone first so you can appreciate the quality. Lincoln Square Steak thoughtfully includes two sauces that are equally inviting to enhance the taste: Lemon Aioli and Cocktail Sauce. We would order this from their Raw Bar again and again.
As our entree, we chose the Prime New York Strip 18oz which is aged to perfection over 30 days and we were completely happy with. Grass fed, this carnivorous sensation arrives from Master Purveyors and came medium, as requested. The tremendous juicy flavor won us over and when they said Bernaise Sauce, we did an Amy Poehler and said Yes Please!
(There are six sauce choices in case you want to say Yes Please to another.)
The Prime NY Strip knew how beautiful it was and insisted on closeups and different angles. Better yet, the taste trumped the visual. You may not pass go and collect $200 without trying some of their lovely sides. We selected the Potato Gratin:
...and sauteed asparagus stand at attention with garlic if you love that like Peachy does!
A smashing dinner always makes us feel better after a bad game or a bad day!
Especially when you consider that it can end with chocolate cake (magic words! dark and milk is alternated) with blueberry compote and vanilla cream.
Lincoln Square Steak is Terrific Takeout!
