In January, the NHL® announced that the Avalanche will play host to the Red Wings at Coors Field on Saturday, Feb. 27 at 8 p.m. ET as part of the 2016 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series™. The game will be broadcast in primetime live in the U.S. on NBC and in Canada on Hockey Night In Canada and TVA Sports.
Additionally, two teams comprised of notable alumni from the Avalanche and Red Wings will play a special game at Coors Field on Friday, Feb. 26, at 7 p.m. ET/5 p.m. MT. The alumni game will feature many of the Avalanche and Red Wings players who competed for those organizations from 1996-2002 when the teams faced each other in the Stanley Cup® Playoffs five times, and combined to win five Stanley Cup® championships.
Additionally, the Avalanche today unveiled the special jersey the team will wear for the 2016 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series™. As they did during the height of the rivalry with the Red Wings, the Avalanche, as the home team, will feature white as the main color of the jersey; a connection to the snow-capped peaks of the Rockies. The C puck mark becomes a powerful front crest, an unmistakable reference to Colorado hockey. Streamlined sleeve striping connects to the bold visual of the Avalanche stripe, part of the team’s socks since 1995. The modern styled collar features a 5,280 call out, referencing the Avalanche’s home in the Mile-High City.
The special uniform to be worn by the Red Wings will be released at a later date.
The NHL today also released the official event logo for the 2016 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series™. League partner MillerCoors returns as the title sponsor of the NHL Stadium Series™ for its flagship Coors Light brand.
