New York City FC Academy Win First-Ever Match
The New York City FC Academy opened their inaugural season in style with a 6-1 victory over the New England Revolution Academy on Sept. 5.
"It was a very exciting moment for the Club when the ref blew the whistle for the first time at kickoff," Youth Technical Coordinator Rodrigo Marion said. "The players responded very well in this first game and met the expectations. We look forward to continuing the hard work and improving. The boys are extremely eager to show their talent and what they are capable of doing as a group."
The New York City FC Academy is a U-13/14 squad comprised of 16 players from the Club's 11 Youth Affiliates and elsewhere. The academy players had a 10-day preseason over the summer and shadowed New York City FC first teamers in preparation for their first-ever campaign.
The academy plays their first home match this weekend against Cedar Stars Academy. Kickoff is 4 p.m. Saturday at the New York City FC Training Facility on the campus of SUNY Purchase.
