LMN presents “They Took Our Child: We Got Her Back,” a new original series that reveals the stories of abducted children who escaped from the hands of their kidnappers; and the families who never gave up hope on getting them home safely. Seven one-hour episodes are set to premiere beginning on Wednesday, October 7 at 10:00pm ET on LMN.
Every day in America, over 1200 children are reported missing. Most are taken by a family member but for those few taken by strangers, if they are not found within the first 24 hours, the odds of them returning back alive are daunting. In the new LMN series, “They Took Our Child: We Got Her Back,” stories of children who were kidnapped by strangers, and who beat the odds and returned safely home are told.
Each episode features a single story, told by the formerly kidnapped child and the family members and investigators who tirelessly searched for them. Viewers will hear about the parents' frantic and relentless search for their child, and how they worked with law enforcement to bring them home. Through first-hand accounts, archival materials and true-to-life recreations, viewers will learn how the child was safely returned and how the perpetrator was captured. Episodes culminate with an emotional present day reunion between the adult child and the key person who helped save them from their kidnapper.
In the October 7th series premiere, the heroic story of then eight-year-old Midsi Sanchez is told. In 2000, Midsi was abducted while walking home from school. After two days of being chained inside her kidnapper’s car, Midsi was able to free herself and courageously escaped with the help of a truck driver who she today credits for saving her life. Forthcoming episodes include the stories of Jeannette Tamayo and Elizabeth Shoaf. Elizabeth was lured by a man posing as a police officer, while Jeanette was followed into her own home and taken by her kidnapper after he severely beat her family members. Both girls eventually were able to escape – with Jeanette gaining the trust of her kidnapper and Elizabeth sending a text message to her mother after she cleverly convinced her captor to let her play games on his cell phone.
“They Took Our Child: We Got Her Back” is produced for LMN by The Company with Charlie Ebersol, Mike Lanigan and Jason C. Henry as executive producers. Laura Fleury and Marilyn Fletcher serve as executive producers for LMN.
