New York City FC – the 20th franchise in Major League Soccer (MLS) and the newest professional soccer team in the New York City area – will face the Puerto Rican National Team in a post-season friendly match on Friday, December, 11 at the Juan Ramón Loubriel Stadium in Bayamón.
New York City FC is comprised of an exciting mix of internationally recognized designated players (including World Cup and Champions League winners David Villa and Andrea Pirlo and Champions League winner, Frank Lampard), the former keeper for the Puerto Rican National Team (Josh Saunders) and up-and-coming U.S. talent (such as U.S. National Team midfielder Mix Diskerud).
New York City FC vs. Puerto Rico promises to be a fantastic match in Puerto Rican football history; fans won’t want to miss it.
Eric Labrador, President of the FPF, said:
"It is a great opportunity for our Puerto Rican National Team to face, at home, a Club with players of such magnitude and recognition. In addition, it’s a great opportunity for our fans to enjoy the play of the most decorated, international trio in MLS history."
Claudio Reyna, New York City FC Sporting Director, added:
“We are looking forward to a competitive match and are excited to learn about the growing interest of soccer in Puerto Rico. We want to thank the Puerto Rican National Team for giving New York City FC the opportunity to play this match at the end of our historic first season as a Club.”
PJ Arroyo, President of Playoffs Entertainment, continued:
"We are very pleased to have sealed this agreement with the New York City FC and are certain that this match will benefit Puerto Rico’s soccer development. Above all, it will contribute to the economic growth of our Island. The opportunity to attend to a soccer game with world-class players like David Villa, Andrea Pirlo and Frank Lampard, is exceptional. These players have been Champions at the highest level of the sport and this event will stimulate and encourage young Puerto Ricans who practice the sport."
