We have been highly recommended by Whom You Know:
Maine Woolens, affordable luxury and tradition.
It's not who you know, it's WHOM YOU KNOW and we know pizza. We are always on the lookout for the best neighborhood pizza spots in Manhattan, and we've been going here for years prior to Whom You Know's existence. Why?
It's next to Century 21 downtown!
Shopping makes us hungry.
Majestic Pizza and Calzones was first reviewed formally late in 2014:
and again this past spring:
What is new is that the old owner sold it to the new owner, and the logo is also new: the sailboat. We love sailboats (have you seen Peachy Ahoy?) and don't believe we've seen them correlated with pizza before...
Not every ownership change we've seen we've commented on, because if we don't have anything nice to say you know we don't say anything at all. In this case, we found everything to be just as good as it ever was and in July 2015 Phil took over. We began with the Cold Antipasto for the green salad. Mixed greens, ham, swiss cheese, roasted peppers, artichokes, fresh mozzarella balls and sun dried tomatoes teamed up for a generous portion of salad, and they remembered to put the dressing on the side as instructed. Just splendid! We were very happy with the salad.
Avid readers have heard us talk about the BC Dining hall cuisine before because it was fantastic. Every Eagle remembers the line at lower for chicken parm, and all chicken parm is not created equally. We thought we'd see how the sandwiches were, and the Grilled Chicken Sandwich will hit the spot. Red onion, lettuce and tomato graced our grilled chicken with fresh mozzarella and tomato sauce.
Having the noun Calzone in the name of this business accurately speaks to the quality of this edible that they serve. Not too many places have great Calzones, and we really cannot recall featuring them from anywhere else. If you are a Calzone enthusiast, this is where you ought to go. We're sure you're all shocked we tried the chicken parmigiana calzone...and the chicken parm receives high points for quality and consistency here.
How we love pizza!
Though we enjoyed everything, pizza is by far the best thing you can eat here. The ingredients are fresh, the crust is perfect and the end result will vanish like magic. It beckons you as you walk by this open-door establishment with a long line evidencing the quality of the pizza. We decided to be rather healthy this visit and try all vegetables: garlic, spinach, onion and tomato and it was truly a smashing combination, especially when you consider the addition of our favorite vegetable: mozzarella. We loved it.
Majestic Pizza and Calzones continues to be Terrific Takeout!
We look forward to seeing what they do next.
