The Recording Academy® Statement Re: Gail Zappa Oct. 8, 2015
"
Gail Zappa was a creative, independent-minded woman who came of age in the fertile music scene of Los Angeles in the late '60s. She became an ardent steward of her late husband Frank Zappa's musical legacy and spent more than 20 years managing his recordings since his passing in 1993. She won a GRAMMY Award® for Best Recording Package in 1995 for Civilization Phaze III, the last album of original music Frank completed before his death. L.A.'s Laurel Canyon music scene would have been less rich without her, as would Frank's posthumous musical output. Our creative community owes a lot to Gail and our thoughts go out to her family, her friends and the many people with whom she collaborated."
