The National Hockey League Players’ Association (NHLPA) and the National Hockey League (NHL®) announced the appointment of Team Europe Assistant Coach Brad Shaw (St. Louis Blues) for the World Cup of Hockey 2016. Shaw joins Head Coach Ralph Krueger and Assistant CoachPaul Maurice behind Team Europe’s bench and he will report to Team Leader/President Franz Reindl and General Manager Miroslav Satan.

“Brad adds an excellent new dimension and a wealth of knowledge to our Coaching Staff,” said Krueger. “He is a perfect culture fit and his depth of experience will be valuable as we reach hard to find the potential of Team Europe at the World Cup of Hockey 2016.”

Shaw has been Associate Coach of the St. Louis Blues since 2012 after initially joining the club as assistant coach in 2006. Prior to joining the Blues coaching staff, he served as an Interim Head Coach and as an Assistant Coach for the New York Islanders (2005-06). In addition, Shaw spent time as Head Coach of the American Hockey League’s (AHL) Cincinnati Mighty Ducks and the International Hockey League’s Detroit Vipers, and as an Assistant Coach of the AHL’s Springfield Falcons as well as the Tampa Bay Lightning. As a player, Shaw was drafted by the Detroit Red Wings in the 1982 NHL Entry Draft, and the defenseman played in 377 career NHL games, registering 22 goals and 159 points with the Hartford Whalers, Ottawa Senators, Washington Capitals and Blues.

Shaw and Maurice (Winnipeg Jets Head Coach) will both serve as Assistant Coaches to Krueger on Team Europe. In addition, Myles Fee (Edmonton Oilers) will serve as Video Coach, while Peter Bondra, Sean Burke, Lorne Henning, Vaclav Nedomansky and Ricky Olczyk will all serve on Team Europe’s Scouting Staff.

The World Cup of Hockey returns in September 2016 in Toronto, where eight teams, comprised of the world’s best hockey players, will compete for a best-on-best international hockey championship. In addition to Team Europe, the teams participating will include Canada, the Czech Republic, Finland, North America, Russia, Sweden and the United States. The World Cup of Hockey is a joint effort of the NHLPA and the NHL, in cooperation with the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). It is expected that more than 150 of the best players in the NHL will participate in this tournament.

Live coverage of all tournament games will be provided by Sportsnet and TVA Sports in Canada and ESPN in the United States.
