One Trillion Dollar ITA Deal Means "New Chapter" in Trade, Says Consumer Technology Association .
The following statement is attributed to Gary Shapiro, president and CEO, Consumer Technology Association (CTA)™ - formerly the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)® - regarding the successful conclusion of the final Information Technology Agreement (ITA) expansion proposal:
"The U.S. and our world partners wrote a new chapter in our global trading system today in Nairobi. The technology industry has worked side-by-side with the U.S. government negotiators for four years to see this day.
"In particular, we thank Ambassador Michael Froman and his Geneva-based United States Trade Representative (USTR) team for their tireless efforts leading our interests through this negotiation. USTR - with the help of the Department of Commerce, State Department, U.S. Customs and Border Protection and various leaders within our industry - can today celebrate the successful conclusion of the biggest trade negotiation completed at the World Trade Organization (WTO) in over 18 years.
"Under the leadership of WTO Director General Azevedo, this is a win for the U.S. - which could contribute as much as $190 billion in GDP and 60,000 new U.S. jobs - and all ITA parties who have been involved in the process. We now urge all parties to continue the fast-paced forward momentum to meet the goal of implementing the ITA agreement in July of 2016."
