#CES2016: FrenchTech will once again be in the spotlight.
France is innovating! For CES 2016, the French delegation is composed of more than 200 companies. France, seen worldwide as a "paradise for startups" will boast the second strongest national presence, behind only the US and far ahead of other European countries. The Paris Region, with 28 startups, is the leading French region at CES Eureka Park. CES 2016 will be a new opportunity to showcase France's remarkable development of the connected objects sector, now known for successes like Withings, Parrot and Netatmo. For Consumer Electronics Show 2016, Paris Region Entreprises is pleased to showcase the economic strength of the electronics sector in the Paris Region.
Fast-growing Paris Region startups.
Forbes magazine just released its ranking of the top 100 IoT (Internet of Things) startups for 2015. It includes a remarkable presence for Paris Region startups: Withings, Innov8 group and Actility!
The increasing adoption of connected objects by the general public has attracted a host of new entrepreneurs. And the Paris Region has a vast ecosystem of highly innovative startups in the sector. In less than 10 years, SMEs like Withings and Netatmo have become key players in this growing market. In a few years, Withings has become a worldwide specialist in connected objects for e-health and already has a strong international presence.
The Paris Region has an outstanding network of resources for businesses in this sector
In 2014, the Paris Region boasted almost one third of France's jobs in the consumer electronics sector.
This high concentration is a result of the region's strong points: proximity to infrastructures (freeways, airports, TGV train stations) and competence centers.
In fact, the Paris Region is at the center of a network of high-performance infrastructures that ensure its accessibility: two international airports for passengers and cargo within 50 kilometers of the capital, a TGV high-speed train network and a very dense regional transport network, allowing quick connections.
The region also features a wealth of R&D centers, schools, and public and private laboratories, renowned nationally and worldwide. This includes the CNRS (French National Center for Scientific Research), CEA (French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission), the Instituts d’Optique et d’Électronique fondamentale (Optics and Electronics research institutes), Paris Sud Orsay University and SUPELEC (a renowned graduate school of engineering). This web of resources for training, innovation, research and development is a veritable asset for Paris Region businesses.
That's why leaders in the sector have chosen the Paris Region for their headquarters, including Parrot, Archos and Netgem, and L-Acoustics chose the region for its manufacturing sites (south of Paris).
The Archos group is known as the leading French manufacturer of consumer electronics. Since 2009, it has refocused its activity on the market for low cost tablets and smartphones. The Parrot group has become a specialist in wireless technology products, posting €244 million turnover in 2014. They are best known for their drone manufacturing activity, which represents a growing share of turnover.
Paris Region leaders in the era of connected objects.
In 2014, Parrot and Archos both accelerated the deployment of their products for the growing market of connected objects. After the 2013 launch of its smart sensor solution for plants, dubbed Flower Power, Parrot released a new version of their hi-fidelity connected headphones in the Zik product line in 2014. Meanwhile, Archos has continued to develop its range of connected objects with a weather station, a lamp that plays music via Bluetooth, a smart electrical outlet and a beanie that contains a speaker to play music.
