New York City FC defeated Florida Gulf Coast University 1-0 on Sunday night. RJ Allen sent a nice cross to Patrick Mullins who put the ball in the back of the net in the 66th minute to help secure the win.
New York City FC opened up the match controlling most of the possession and pressing hard against FGCU.
New York City FC almost got on the board in the 12th minute when David Villa made a back heel pass to Frank Lampard who then sent the shot just wide.
In the 19th minute Villa fired a shot on goal and FGCU’s goalkeeper Sawyer Jackman made a nice save to keep the match scoreless.
Jackman again made another save on Villa in the 36th minute, Villa quickly fired another one in and hit the post. New York City FC Forward Kwadwo Poku recovered the ball and fired one off the post.
To close the first half, Villa booted a long shot from distance, which was denied.
Throughout the second half, New York City FC maintained a large portion of the possession, continuing to attack and create chances.
