New York City FC defeated the Oklahoma City Energy FC 1-0 on Friday afternoon. New York City FC Captain David Villa recovered a ball that Oklahoma City turned over and scored the lone goal for the Club in the 18th minute.

Villa almost scored his first goal in the seventh minute but rocketed a shot over the bar off a corner. 

New York City FC came out strong and controlled most of the possession in the first 15 minutes.

Josh Saunders made a diving save to keep the game even in the 17th minute. 

After the Villa goal, new comer Diego Martinez lifted a shot just high of the crossbar in the 32nd minute as New York City FC held on to its 1-0 lead, to close out the first half.

To open the second half, Ronald Matarrita fired a shot just over the crossbar. 

In the 58th minute, Mehdi Ballouchy almost scored from just outside the box as the ball sailed above the goal. 


Andoni Iraola sent a nice cross to Patrick Mullins, but Mullins’ header was denied by the Oklahoma City goalkeeper, Cody Laurendi, in the 66th minute. 

In the 89th minute, Oklahoma City committed a handball in their own box after a corner kick. Mullins took the penalty for New York City FC, but was denied by Laurendi. 

New York City FC collects their second preseason victory.
