SHEARY’S OVERTIME HEROICS LIFT PENGUINS TO 2-0 SERIES LEAD
The Sharks tied the game with 4:05 remaining in regulation, but Conor Sheary scored at2:35 of overtime to lift the Penguins to a 2-0 series lead in the Stanley Cup Final.
* Elias says that Sheary, an undrafted free agent who signed with the Penguins in July, became the fifth rookie to record an overtime goal in the Stanley Cup Final – and the first do so in 30 years:

* Sheary, who also scored in Game 1, registered his first career game-winning goal including the regular season (63 GP). He ranks fourth among rookies with 4-5—9 during the playoffs (19 GP).

“HBK LINE” CONTINUES TO PRODUCE FOR PENGUINS
Phil Kessel provided the other goal for the Penguins, with assists from linemates Nick Bonino and Carl Hagelin.

* The trio has combined for 19-31—50 in 20 games this postseason: Kessel (10-9—19), Bonino (4-13—17) and Hagelin (5-9—14).

* Kessel became the ninth player in Penguins history to reach double-digits in goals during a single playoff year and the first to do so since 2009 (Sidney Crosby: 15, Evgeni Malkin: 14).

ANOTHER OVERTIME IN GAME 2 OF THE STANLEY CUP FINAL
Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final went to overtime for the fifth time in the past six years:

2014 – NYR 4 at LAK 5 (Dustin Brown, 10:26 of 2OT)
2013 – BOS 2 at CHI 1 (Daniel Paille, 13:48 of OT)
2012 – LAK 2 at NJD 1 (Jeff Carter, 13:42 of OT)
2011 – BOS 2 at VAN 3 (Alexandre Burrows, 0:11 of OT)

* The Penguins improved to 28-26 in 54 all-time playoff overtime games, including a 17-16 record on home ice. They also improved to 2-0 in overtime games during the Stanley Cup Final, with their lone other such contest in Game 5 in 2008 at DET (Petr Sykora – 49:57).

Since the Final went to the best-of-seven format in 1939, teams that have taken a 2-0 series lead have gone on to capture the Stanley Cup 89.8% of the time (44 of 49 series) – including each of the past two instances (2012 and 2014, LAK).

* Home teams have swept the opening two games of the Stanley Cup Final 36 times in that span, ultimately winning the championship 33 times (91.7%). Two of those losses, however, have come in the last seven years: 2009 (PIT @ DET) and 2011 (BOS @ VAN).

NHL COMBINE CONTINUES IN BUFFALO
The 2016 NHL Combine continues through Saturday at First Niagara Center and HarborCenter in Buffalo, with 114 of the top draft-eligible players taking part in one-on-one interviews with NHL teams, medical examinations and fitness testing.

ICYMI: Forward Auston Matthews, the No. 1-ranked European skater by NHL Central Scouting, sat down for a Q&A with NHL.com . . . Forward Jakob Chychrun, the No. 4-ranked North American skater, penned a blog for NHL.com about his interview with the Flyers that involved the scout who selected his father, Jeff, in the 1984 NHL Draft as well as his father’s former teammate, current general manager Ron Hextall.
