In 2016, we've seen more movies we didn't care for than any other year so far.
Ever.
Even before we started publishing on them.
We are thrilled to say DEAR ELEANOR is not in this group!
A total, complete breath of fresh air, Dear Eleanor is universally appealing and introduces the audiences to hot, young up-and-coming actors that are impressive in their own right.
Many think they are on the rise but these are the ones that really are.
Liana was previously featured on Whom You Know:
Baby boomers will also be thrilled by this movie, as it is set in the early 1960's in sunny California.
A tribute to Americana in general, Dear Eleanor opens with great tragedy and is the protagonist's development to overcoming this setback that brilliantly blazes on screen for the tight 90 minute flick which is fabulously edited.
We like the prevailing theme of women sticking together, and unfortunately this is not always the experience in real life.
If you've ever been to confession (Catholics! Jesuits!) and later thought impure thoughts of Warren Beatty during movies, you will be able to relate to this movie. Also we love that Barbie has a little cameo (have you met our Entrepreneur Barbie? http://www.whomyouknow.com/2014/08/you-cant-be-what-you-cant-see-meet.html ) and the major coming of age theme is executed through a road-trip tale that trumps Thelma and Louise.
Patrick Schwarzenegger one-ups Brad Pitt absolutely.
Family dynamics are central to this film, and if you like fantastic American cars, this is right up your alley. The historically accurate vehicles, props, and settings all deserve great applause. For the record, Peachy was not alive during the 1960's however her parents were and she's seen Frankie Valli so many times in concert she feels like she was there (we love Jersey Boys and saw it three times in 2006; it's the only show we've seen more than once and we liked the original cast). The Cuban missile crisis and President Kennedy on black and white tv also spell the time period...and you know he is Patrick's great uncle (Maria is his niece and she must be super proud of her son.)
Way before emails and social media, people wrote letters...and that's where the film title comes from, but we won't spoil it for you. The talents of Jessica Alba and Josh Lucas in particular in character jumped out of the screen the most and struck us the most; there is not a weak link in this cast which is the absolute best ensemble in a long time. Boasting great chemistry between key roles, Dear Eleanor was cast so well.
Finally, Manhattan itself becomes a character and Times Square and the Paramount Theatre star! And, even Ireland makes a wee appearance many of you will be pleased to know.
Dear Eleanor is Highly Recommended by Whom You Know!
