INDYCAR officials published their complete 2017 schedule, which includes the return of the Verizon IndyCar Series to Iowa Speedway, the first race of the two-year extension that was announced earlier this summer. The Iowa Corn 300 will take place between the road course at Road America and the Streets of Toronto. Next season, the stars of INDYCAR will hit the progressive banking of “The Fastest Short Track on the Planet” on July 9, 2017, for the Iowa Corn 300 – the 11th race of the INDYCAR season. The start time will be announced at a later date.
“We’re huge INDYCAR fans in central Iowa, so the announcement of the 2017 schedule is great for fans, as they plan for next summer,” said Iowa Speedway President Jimmy Small. “The Iowa Corn 300 has become a bucket-list item for race fans and we are thrilled to continue bringing the Verizon IndyCar Series to Iowa each year just as we have done since 2007.”
The early announcement of the IndyCar Series dates, along with the one NASCAR made in May, sets up three high-octane weekends of racing at Iowa Speedway in 2017. Next summer’s Iowa Corn 300 race weekend will also feature the ARCA Racing Series Iowa 150 on Saturday, July 8, giving race fans a full complement of stock car and open wheel racing.
Iowa Speedway gained international attention in 2007 when INDYCAR became the first major series to race at the physically and mentally demanding track. Since that time, the premier drivers of open wheel racing have returned to Newton each year. The Iowa Corn 300, entering its 11th year in 2017, is the second longest entitlement sponsorship in INDYCAR racing.
"Iowa Speedway is a vital component of the Verizon IndyCar Series schedule and we know our fans, drivers and teams are happy to see this key short oval on our schedule,” said Jay Frye, President of Competition and Operations for INDYCAR. “All the great people at Iowa Corn and Iowa Speedway work diligently to make our race such a great event and we're looking forward to INDYCAR's future at Iowa Speedway.”
