THIRD-PERIOD RALLY POWERS FLYERS TO VICTORY
With Philadelphia facing a 3-0 deficit in the third period, 19-year-old Travis Konecny (first NHL goal) and 38-year-old Mark Streit (1-2—3) each scored to help spur the Flyers to an eventual shootout victory.
* Elias says that the Flyers won after trailing by at least three goals in the third period for the first time since Dec. 19, 2013 vs. CBJ (trailed 3-0; 5-4 W). It also marked the third such comeback of the 2016-17 season, with Winnipeg claiming the others on Oct. 13 vs. CAR and Oct. 19 vs. TOR.
* The Flyers, who also overcame a multi-goal deficit to win Saturday vs. CAR (trailed 2-0; 6-3 W), have at least evened the score in a game after trailing by multiple goals four times this season. The other instances: Oct. 15 at ARI (trailed 3-1; 4-3 OT L) and Oct. 18 at CHI (trailed 4-0; 7-4 L).
CROSBY RETURNS TO SPARK PENGUINS’ COMEBACK
Making his 2016-17 NHL season debut, captain Sidney Crosby scored the first of three unanswered goals by the Penguins to help his club overcome a 2-0 deficit and improve to 4-0-1 on home ice.
* Crosby – who in the past four months has claimed the Stanley Cup, Conn Smythe Trophy, World Cup of Hockey and World Cup of Hockey MVP – has collected 59 points in 45 regular-season games in the 2016 calendar year (28-31—59). Only one player has more points in that span: Sharks forward Joe Thornton (12-49—61 in 53 GP).
* The Penguins, who also climbed from a 2-0 hole to win on Thursday vs. SJS (3-2 W), have trailed in three of their four victories this season (also Oct. 13 vs. WSH: trailed 1-0; 3-2 SO W). Elias notes that Pittsburgh overcame a multi-goal deficit to win seven times in 2015-16.
NO LEAD IS SAFE
Elias says that there have been 19 instances this season (in 93 GP) in which a team has overcome a multi-goal deficit to earn at least one point. The trailing team eventually won 15 of those 19 instances.
* Through the first two weeks of the 2015-16 season (91 GP), there only were eight instances in which a team earned at least one point after trailing by multiple goals (trailing team’s record: 6-1-1).
TRIUMPHANT RETURN FOR ELLIOTT AND CO.
Flames goaltender Brian Elliott made 23 saves, including 12 in the third period, to record his second win in as many nights while making his return to St. Louis, where he spent the past six seasons and is the all-time shutouts leader. The Blues thanked Elliott and Troy Brouwer, who last season helped St. Louis reach the Conference Finals for the first time since 2001.
* ICYMI: Flames forward Matthew Tkachuk (0-1—1) skated in his first NHL game in St. Louis, where he grew up playing hockey while his father, Keith, played with the Blues.
HOME SWEET HOME
The Red Wings and Devils each maintained their unblemished home records:
* Dylan Larkin (2-0—2) scored his first goals of the season to power Detroit to its fifth consecutive victory and a 4-0-0 record on home ice this season, their final campaign at Joe Louis Arena. Elias notes that the Red Wings have won their first four home games on two other occasions since moving to The Joe in 1979-80 – they went 6-0-0 in 1990-91 and 4-0-0 in 2003-04.
* The Devils surrendered a two-goal lead, but Travis Zajac (2-0—2) scored twice in the final 2:01 of regulation to help New Jersey improve to 3-0-0 at Prudential Center. Offseason acquisition Taylor Hall (2-1—3), who has collected each of his six points this season on home ice (5-1—6), posted his first three-point game with the Devils.
OT HEROICS IN CALIFORNIA
Defensemen Alec Martinez (LAK) and Marc-Edouard Vlasic (SJS) scored overtime goals on home ice:
* Martinez (343 GP) scored his third career regular-season overtime goal – and second in his past three games (also Oct. 20 at DAL) – to lift the Kings to their third consecutive victory on the heels of a 0-3-0 start. Overtime heroics are not new to the Rochester Hills, Mich., native – he tallied the series-clinching overtime goal in both the 2014 Conference Finals and Stanley Cup Final.
* Vlasic (744 GP) netted his eighth career game-winning goal and second in overtime. His only other overtime goal came at 3:09 of the extra frame on Jan. 6, 2015 at MIN.
LOOSE PUCKS
Maple Leafs rookie Auston Matthews (1-1—2) leads the League with 6-4—10 this season, highlighted by three multi-point efforts . . . Lightning teammates Steven Stamkos(2-2—4) and Nikita Kucherov (1-3—4) matched and set career highs for points in a game, respectively . . . Wild goaltender Devan Dubnyk (27 SV) and Senators goaltender Craig Anderson (22 SV) each posted shutouts . . . Flyers captain Claude Girouxextended his point streak to six games with his League-leading eighth assist . . . Hurricanes forward Victor Rask (4-3—7) scored to become the first Hurricanes player to start a season with a point in six straight games since 1998-99 (Keith Primeau: 4-4—8 in 7 GP) . . . Stars forward Jason Dowling (0-1—1) and Bruins goaltender Zane McIntyre (15 SV) each made their NHL debut . . . The Bruins, Kings and Penguins each hosted Hockey Fights Cancer nights . . . The Penguins presented a special gift to Panthers forward Jaromir Jagr, who began his career w/ PIT and on Tuesday played in his 1,635th career game to tie Scott Stevens for seventh place in NHL history.

For the second straight week, a pair of Original Six members meet on NBCSN’s Wednesday Night Rivalry when the Bruins head to Madison Square Garden to take on the Rangers for the first time in 2016-17. New York owns a 3-1-0 record on home ice this season and is coming off a pair of wins over the weekend (4-2 W at WSH and 3-2 W vs. ARI), while Boston aims to rebound from back-to-back losses.
PREDATORS VISIT DUCKS IN 2016 FIRST ROUND REMATCH
The Predators begin a five-game road trip at Honda Center in Anaheim, where they will face off against the Ducks for the first time since ousting them in seven games in the opening round of the 2016 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Nashville won three road games in that series (a first for the franchise), capped by a 2-1 victory in the club’s first-ever Game 7.
