With a degree in American History from Boston College, Peachy Deegan thought Alexander Hamilton was cool years and years before Broadway did, and we think he should stay on the ten dollar bill for the record. You should absolutely visit the REAL HAMILTON; this is his house Hamilton Grange a National Memorial, in of course, Hamilton Heights (this means the west 140's). We did that once and we would not mind living there but that's not an option. Separately, Hamilton Heights has finally emerged on the culinary scene! We've looked for great things to write on there, however, FUMO RESTAURANT can be proud to say they are the first to be published on! As you know, we only publish on great experiences; if we have nothing nice to say we say nothing at all.
You know the Italians in general have set a fabulous precedent for any new Italian place we publish on; yes, Fumo is Italian and it opened in March 2016. They earn high marks for cleanliness and this is by far the most happening spot in the entire neighborhood.
We began with the piping hot eggplant parmigiana appetizer. The tremendous freshness in the sauce was impressive with authentic tomato flavor: pomodoro, basil...and the steam you probably can see in the picture is real. We do not edit: pictures are always the truth! This was a good start. It was followed by the Meatballs appetizer; they were solidly good. The meat is sourced from Main Street Meats in Long Island and is organic beef we were told.
Pierro hails from Ravenna in Italy; Steven is of Italian descent and is first generation American; his mom is from Sicily and his dad is from Torino.
We love it when people listen to Ms. Pretty Picky here and put the salad dressing on the side, especially when they make it look nice in a silver boat! Fumo earns a High 5 for their depth of Greens and Salad selection; we chose Romaine. This lettuce has a soiree with cucumber, grape tomatoes, wonderfully shaved carrots that look like party streamers, and mozzarella: LIONI.
You will definitely have a hard time ignoring the fresh bread! You're going to love it.
We adored the Rigatoni Gamberi and would definitely order it again. Shrimp, broccoli, mozzarella and lovely pink sauce waltz together in a dance where flavors combine perfectly. This dish knows what ABC is showing tomorrow night at 8pm we believe (go Marilu!)
Not to be outdone is the Chicken Parm, which of course we ordered.
Peachy Deegan is an absolute Chicken Parm monster and it is something she orders all the time at the more American Italian restaurants; Italian Italians do not do this but since she is not Italian one bit, Peachy is not bothered by the pedestrian reputation of this, especially when it is as delicious as it is at Fumo. Though we really did like the shrimp, this was our favorite and by far the most convincing element of the visit. Organic chicken is surrounded by a moat of superb sauce and fabulous mozzarella that you want to dive into immediately. Of course you need pasta with it-do not pick the salad get that separately!
This is what winning looks like, Hamilton Heights! And if you are not from this neighborhood, you should know that after you check out the National site you can have a nice dinner here!
This dish was quite poseable and interested in being photographed from every angle.
If you are into fish, the Branzino of Fumo was solidly convincing. Rosemary, thyme, salt and pepper bring out its natural goodness as you revel in its oven-roasted flavor embellished by a fresh herb marinate and baby spinach. We were told that fish is delivered seven times a week by Meat Without Feet.
Then Steve asked Peachy if she liked pizza....silly Steve must not have read many reviews before! She loves pizza, and now she loves the Fumo margherita pizza with fresh mozzarella, basil, tomato and evoo.
Fumo Restaurant is Terrific Takeout!
