We thought pizza was essential in life long before we lived in Manhattan.
Now, we're absolutely positive.
In fact, when Peachy lived in London she was absolutely starving for specific pizza from places she knew in Manhattan and she could not find it anywhere in London (the water is different here...) - let that be a challenge to all of you London pizza restaurant owners because we are getting there!
It is an extremely happy day when we find a new pizza place to brag to you about and you may not even know this one -we're letting you in on a big secret - because they don't have a website.
This venue is located in the area of Mayor Koch's bridge, which he is extremely proud of even up there we believe. Check out his Mover and Shaker interview here.
Please meet Best Pizza on 1st, open since 2008 and owned by the original owner.
We began with a large Greek salad. Feta, red onion, tomato, cucumber, iceberg lettuce and green onions team up with freshness to provide a classic bastion of nutrition to go with your salad. Having a salad with a pizza is just as important as having a glass of nice Italian red or champagne with it.
And, they listened and put the dressing on the side! A classic Italian...
Of course they have an A.
Everyone we met was gracious and proud of the work, including the owner who though is a total peach, prefers to stay under the radar which we absolutely respect.
We've eaten many sandwiches but we have never (Mover and Shaker Charles Ferri are you listening!) ever had a CHICKEN VODKA PARMIGIANA sandwich. Everyone reading knows we love love love chicken parm and we feel the same way about Star Vodka.
This flavor was incredible and you must try this sandwich. From the chicken to the mozzarella to the bread and sauce we were completely happy; we do think however Star Vodka should be used.
The menu here is quite deep and impressive. For pasta, we opted for the delicious stuffed shells which absolutely hit the spot on a cold day like today where the wind is gusting. If you don't blow away first, march yourself right to this pizza place and start ordering and warm up!
There are many pizza choices and we count about 16 under the Gourmet Pizza section alone, which is where we wanted to order from. This is not to be confused with the regular pizza section, the Pan Pizza section, the Slices, the Mini Pizza Section or the Whole Wheat Pizza section. We like beaucoup de options and you can see that this place has them.
Our pizza was a true work of art and reminded us of the section of Impressionism that is Pointillism.
We ordered the Veggie Pizza which is composed of:
Spinach
Broccoli
Peppers
Onions
Mushrooms
and we added fresh tomatoes and garlic, and you know there's cheese on it.
Amazingly, even the crust held up well.
We liked it so much we also ate it for breakfast the next day!
Actions speak louder than words.
Everything is better with cheese:
At the conclusion, we also had a slice of plain cheese with the owner and it was also highly compelling in flavor. You should know the fresh mozzarella is made fresh every day here.
We highly recommend Best Pizza on 1st and look forward to what they do next.
