GALCHENYUK, PRICE LIFT NHL-LEADING CANADIENS OVER RED WINGS
Alex Galchenyuk scored with 1:23 left in overtime as the League-leading Canadiens improved to 16-4-2 (34 points) this season.
* Carey Price made 32 saves to improve to 13-1-1 this season (1.66 GAA, .946 SV%, 2 SO) and has allowed one goal or fewer in nine of his 15 starts. Elias notes that Price is the only goaltender in the Canadiens’ 99-year NHL history to win 13 of his first 15 appearances in a season.
CARTER (AGAIN) HELPS KINGS EXTEND WINNING STREAKS
The Kings earned a 2-1 overtime victory over the Blackhawks to secure their sixth consecutive home win and fifth straight victory overall. Jeff Carter (1-1—2) scored in overtime, his fourth game-winning goal in the past five games.
* Elias says that Carter, who leads the League with six game-winning goals this season (22 GP), became the first player in franchise history to score four such goals in a span of five team games.
SEVERAL CLUBS SECURE SHOOTOUT WINS
Four teams earned victories on Saturday via the shootout:
* Sidney Crosby tied the game with 14 seconds remaining in regulation – his League-leading 15th goal of the season (16 GP) – and Kris Letang scored the decisive marker in the shootout as the Penguins improved to 8-2-1 at home in 2016-17. Elias notes that six of Crosby’s 353 career goals have been either a tying or go-ahead marker in the final 60 seconds of regulation.
* The Blues surrendered a game-tying goal with 1:08 left in the third period, but David Perron (0-2—2) scored the decisive marker in the shootout as St. Louis extended their home point streak to nine games (7-0-2). Perron stretched his point streak to seven games (2-8—10), equaling his career high from Feb. 7-18, 2012 (6-3—9).
* Roberto Luongo made 36 saves through 65 minutes and denied all three shootout attempts to help the Panthers improve to 5-2-0 in their last seven outings. Luongo earned the 444th victory of his NHL career to move within three of tying Terry Sawchuk for fifth place on the all-time list. Jaromir Jagr scored in regulation to pick up his 1,878th career point (752-1,126—1,878), nine behind Mark Messier (694-1,193—1,887) for second all-time.
* Markus Granlund (0-1—1) notched the lone goal in the shootout as the Canucks improved to 3-1-1 in their last five contests. Vancouver has earned six of their nine victories this season in extra time (4 OT W and 2 SO W).

Rookie Auston Matthews scored the first game-winning goal of his NHL career as the Maple Leafs snapped a three-game slide (0-2-1) and improved to 8-3-0 at Air Canada Centre this season . . . Forward Kyle Turris scored the go-ahead goal with 3:32 remaining in regulation to guide the Senators to their third consecutive win . . . Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf (1-1—2) scored the game-winning goal to snap a 15-game goalless drought and help Anaheim halt a three-game slide (0-2-1) . . . Forward Michael Cammalleri (2-0—2) has scored in all three games since returning to the Devils lineup on Nov. 23 (4-4—8) . . . Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner (0-2—2) is tied for first among rookies with 7-11—18 this season (21 GP) . . . Penguins goaltender Matt Murray (27 saves) improved to 7-1-0 this season (1.75 GAA, .939 SV%, 1 SO) . . . Blues forward Jaden Schwartz (2-0—2) scored twice in a span of 1:03 to extend his point streak to six games (5-3—8) . . .
