Whom You Know celebrates the best of entrepreneurial spirit so we are delighted to discover a book with a title such as this containing superlative content.  Thinking well is central to winning, and this book we recommend today is penned by an author who ought to know, having graduated from both Oxford and Harvard.  (Although we still prefer Boston College.) Santa, if you are reading please note this is an ideal stocking stuffer for those that want to succeed of all ages, and if you are a commuter who has people on your commute that contribute to a good reading environment for you, this is perfect for that as well to start off your business day right!  Restaurant owners should read page 123 well.

Some wisdom from Broughton includes:
"To want change, to search for opportunity and then be wiling to pursue it. Those three steps of want, search and pursuit can put the entrepreneurially minded at odds with those around them." (p. 17)
He credits Drucker:
"It is the three steps of searching, responding and exploiting an opportunity laid out by Drucker [which define the entrepreneur.]" (p. 74)

You must heal the pain of your customers, the author suggests. You must practice empathy with people very different from yourself, which he terms cognitive complexity.  Age and experience are also examined, and all that appreciate the finer points of philosophy we believe will also enjoy this fantastic book.

Note how few book reviews are published in 2016 compared to 2009.
We really liked this one!
Probably the best line comes on page 99:
"Those with everything to lose respond to the waves of disruption by trying to bail out their fatally holed craft.  The entrepreneur pulls out a surfboard."

Explore how entrepreneurial thinking can dramatically improve your work, life and relationships
Having the drive, ambition and inspiration to start a new business takes a special mind-set and self-confidence—think Steve Jobs, Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg. It’s no wonder that we regard successful entrepreneurs as modern-day magicians, transforming sometimes-radical ideas into global brands that change the way we live our lives. But what if that spirit and drive were applied to the world outside of business start-ups?

An entrepreneur seeks to build something from nothing, to take an inspired idea and make it a reality. In HOW TO THINK LIKE AN ENTREPRENEUR, Philip Delves Broughton will explore what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur—the ability to disrupt the status quo and generate fresh perspectives—and ultimately lead us to the heart of great entrepreneurial thinking: an understanding of our deepest human needs. By harnessing the passion, verve and limitless imagination of an entrepreneur, this book will show you new ways to improve your business, but also your life and relationships.
