Peachy Ahoy: SuperYacht Racing Association Launch Corinthian Spirit Class

Among the incredible racing action that will grace the waters of Bermuda in 2017 is the America’s Cup Superyacht Regatta, taking place from Tuesday 13 June to Thursday 15 June and featuring some of the most awe-inspiring yachts on the planet.

In a move designed to broaden the appeal of superyacht regattas, the SuperYacht Racing Association (SYRA) has developed the Corinthian Spirit Class which will be featured in the America’s Cup Superyacht Regatta in 2017. This is a new initiative designed to grow participation in superyacht regattas and provide yacht owners not currently taking part in regattas with an alternative class of racing to what is viewed as increasingly competitive and resource intensive racing.

Among the features of the Corinthian Spirit Class are modified eligibility criteria, with no spinnakers allowed, and only jibs on furlers or hanks, reduced regatta expenses, special Corinthian Spirit Class handicap certificates, a strong focus on safe racing, and shorter, less challenging race courses for Corinthian Spirit Class participants.

Full details of the new Corinthian Spirit Class and all the racing documents for the America’s Cup Superyacht Regatta can be found here.
