The Dead Poet by Kevin Cole Inaugural Review Our Coverage Sponsored by Bergen Linen
Thank Goodness also for Kevin Cole and his fantastic restaurant, The Dead Poet!
We love a venue that uses WHOM properly on their menu!!! AND it's with PEACH. That was this way before we even reached out...and definitely a good idea if you'd want to be considered for review.

Thank goodness for Guinness is right and we love love love Guinness.
We also love the intellectuals and those that are highly literary, and The Dead Poet was started by an English teacher in 2000! In October of 2015, current owner Kevin Cole bought The Dead Poet after having worked there since 2008. With a grandmother McGrory from County Derry and a grandfather Logue from Belfast, Kevin is another enthused Irish American. This is no ordinary pub; they are serious about their food and they change the menu seasonally. In 2002 the Guinness Wall of Fame began here, so now we have something we'd like to achieve...getting our name up there! And maybe even our picture. When you drink a 20 oz Guinness pint, you can work towards your 100, 500 and 1000 commemorative pint designations on this wall, and they have a great reputation for pouring a fabulous pint at The Dead Poet.
We even earned a frequent pint drinker card on our visit, which is a first in any review.
Obviously, you must have a Guinness with whatever you dine upon and don't miss Kevin's genius on the mirror as you walk in...there's a trick to it.
We love how they have their name on the pint glasses!
A fantastic juicy burger is a wonderful companion to a Guinness, and they use Angus beef in their carnivorous delights of this ilk.
From the fresh bun to the juicy delicious beef, the Original boasts american cheese (we LOVE AMERICAN CHEESE), lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions and ketchup/mustard. It is a good size and you will be just delighted with it.
It arrived medium just as it was ordered.
We were also impressed with the Fish and Chips; hand-battered cod filets were golden and crisp on the outside and properly moist and cod-o'-licious inside (the cod insisted upon the O' because it said it was IRISH) and the weather we are in the midst of right now in Manhattan is just like the UK and Ireland almost, without the absolutely penetrating dampness. So you can eat to match the weather!
Above is an example of what makes this an extraordinary bar as opposed to your run-of-the-mill neighborhood joint. Kevin told us they have "everything" fries (you know, like an "everything" bagel) and though a simple concept, these are unique and tasty and an idea that sets them apart. We tried them with the BLT, which Kevin also suggested:
We were fabulously impressed with this monster sandwich with thick buttery toast, called Texas Toast (he had to explain that to Peachy since she is not from Texas but rather, from Connecticut.) Crispy bacon, lettuce, tomato and mayo have a party and practically a rodeo inbetween that Texas toast. You know you should add avocado!
The Big Green is one of the best green salads we've seen in a pub atmosphere and romaine, baby spinach, tomatoes, candied pecans, and craisins teamed up for a bevy of sophisticated nutrition. Kevin was happy to put the pumpkin cider vinaigrette on the side, which we would recommend. Yes, we liked this dressing!
Everyone knows that the Matty Ice show is going to start pretty soon and for everyone that is not also a BOSTON COLLEGE EAGLE that means Superbowl Sunday. Game food is absolutely essential during the Superbowl and the Quesadillas fit the bill tremendously and on our long "to-do" list is to start a column on game food. We typically order chicken but Kevin said to try the pulled pork, and they were sensational!
Finally, do not miss the Truffle fries embellished with truffle oil, sea salt and parmesean! Amazing.
The Dead Poet is Terrific Takeout and we look forward to seeing what they do next.
