Pennsylvania woman wins HGTV Dream Home Giveaway 2017
Of more than 131 million sweepstakes entries, Anna Spangler randomly chosen to win
$1.7 million grand prize
Kutztown, Pennsylvania, resident Anna Spangler thought she and her husband were going on a typical Friday night double date with friends. Little did Spangler know that while at the painting studio, HGTV designer and host Tiffany Brooks would show up to let her know she had won the HGTV® Dream Home 2017.
“It was surreal,” Spangler said. “It is absolutely unbelievable.”
Spangler’s name was drawn at random from more than 131 million entries in the sweepstakes. She wins the approximately 3,200-square-foot residence on St. Simons Island, Georgia, a new Honda Pilot and $250,000 from national mortgage lender Quicken Loans®.
Spangler, who works in marketing, said that she signed up on HGTV.com to receive daily email reminders to enter the sweepstakes. “During my lunch break, I would enter,” she said. “It was definitely my dream.”
The home was restored to a one-of-a-kind seaside getaway with a design aesthetic that can be described as Southern Transitional. With Sea Island as the backdrop, the 1980s-built home maintains a traditional look that embodies true Southern charm with an emphasis on architecture reflective of its coastal location.
Spangler and her husband will have their first chance to see the home in the coming weeks. Viewers can witness her reaction to the ambush and the home itself by tuning in to the HGTV Dream Home Giveaway Special premiering Friday, May 26 at 1 p.m. ET on HGTV.
