Known as one of the Caribbean’s most varied and upscale islands, St. Barts continues to thrive as a tropical destination by offering a collection of world class villas, hotels, spas, fine dining and an array of cultural events. In 2017, the island welcomes new hotels, restaurants, bars and more, all of which will call St. Barts home.
“The energy and excitement on St. Barts is unlike any other destination in the Caribbean, attracting visitors from across the globe,” shares Nils Dufau, president of Tourisme de St. Barts. “We look forward to the continued success of our partners that bring new offerings and additions throughout 2017.”
Below is a selection of new or recently opened additions to St. Barts for 2017 with more to be announced in the coming months:
Le Barthelemy, a high-end luxury boutique hotel, opened in October 2016 on the Grand Cul-de-Sac. The hotel features 46 rooms and suites with interiors designed by Sybille de Margerie, a spa with a hamman and two dining experiences by Michelin-starred French Chef Guy Martin.
Villa Marie, formally the Francois Plantation, was recently renovated by the Sibuet Group, opening December of 2016. Located in Colombier, the Villa Marie overlooks Flamands Beach and features 18 bungalows and villas, the Pure Altitude spa, a rum & cigar bar and François Plantation restaurant, led by Chef Emmanuel Motte featuring locally inspired dishes.
The Barrière hotel group is currently renovating the Hotel Carl Gustaf with a grand opening scheduled for late 2017. The hotel promises unique five-star service with fine dining and special access to Shellona restaurant.
Located a short walk from Gustavia Harbor is Shellona, a new beach-front restaurant serving Greek cuisine by Chef Yiannis Kioroglou. Formally DO Brazil, the eatery was purchased by the Barrière hotel group and recently renovated opening December of 2016. The menu will feature creative signature cocktails, authentic Mediterranean cuisine and live music upon occasion. The restaurant was named after its location, Shell Beach, which overflows with millions of tiny, beautiful shells and is only one of four shell beaches in the world.
Located in the heart of Gustavia, Bo Kao, formally Le Carre, is the latest addition to culinary scene opening December of 2016. Chef Luis Arévalo is the first to bring the widely popular Nikkei cuisine, a fusion of Japanese and Peruvian gastronomy, to St. Barts.
Located on top of the iconic rock of St. Jean Bay, Rock Bar at Eden Rock officially opened its doors in October of 2016 serving cocktails expertly crafted with rare alcohols and vintages. Signature cocktails featured on the Rock Bar menu include the Lotus Martini, Eden Garden, Chili-Chili Bang Bang, and "La Corne On the Rocks,” a genuine cow-horn containing Mount Gay Black Barrel Rum, Chambord liqueur, fresh raspberries, mint and cranberry juice.
