True Crime Programming Giant Investigation Discovery Strengthens Development Team: Hires Erica Diaz-Gant And Ups Brent Hatherill To Senior Directors
Investigation Discovery, cable’s #1 channel for women* and America’s most-watched true crime network, is beefing up its roster of content developers. Jane Latman, executive vice president of development for ID, snapped up Erica Diaz-Gant from NBC Universal’s Oxygen Media, who joins Investigation Discovery as senior director of development. Additionally, Brent Hatherill was promoted from his role on Investigation Discovery from director of development to senior director.
Prior to joining Discovery, Diaz-Gant was the executive in charge of the longest-running crime series on the Oxygen Network, Snapped, now in its 20th season, and developed and produced their second longest-running crime series Killer Couples, entering its 9th season. During her tenure at NBC Universal, she developed original content, such as She Made Me Do It, #KillerPost, and the Snapped: Notorious franchise, and served as an executive producer and brand manager on pilots, presentations, series and specials. Diaz-Gant will be stationed in Discovery’s New York office, reporting directly to Latman.
Hatherill joined Discovery in 2015 to oversee the conceptualization and development of non-fiction programming at American Heroes Channel (AHC), notably launching Blood & Fury: America’s Civil War and Hitler: The Definitive Guide among others. Since joining the ID team in 2016, Hatherill has been responsible for developing the upcoming James Patterson’s Murder Is Forever in addition to numerous yet-to-be-announced series. Prior to Discovery, Hatherill served as vice president of development for Sirens Media and was responsible for developing, shepherding and selling dozens of projects to various networks, including the long-running hits Who the (Bleep) Did I Marry?, Nightmare Next Door, Evil Twins, and Deadly Affairs for ID. Hatherill remains in the Silver Spring, MD headquarters, reporting to vice president of development, Winona Meringolo.
“Erica is a passionate content executive with hundreds of hours of true crime development and production experience across unscripted and scripted genres, while Brent has proven himself a tremendous asset to our team with a keen and creative eye for developing true crime content specifically catered to the dedicated ID fan,” said Jane Latman, EVP of development for Investigation Discovery. “I am confident that these bold personnel moves will bolster our development slate, help us continue to innovate the true crime genre and allow us to retain our position as the #1 network for women on cable.”
