RECORDING ACADEMY™ STATEMENT RE: JON HENDRICKS NOV. 27, 2017

"Jon Hendricks was a highly acclaimed singer and songwriter who helped bring the jazz vocal technique vocalese to a vast audience in the 1950s and 1960s. No stranger to the Recording Academy™, Hendricks’ jazz ensemble Lambert, Hendricks & Ross earned the Best Performance By A Vocal Group GRAMMY® for High Flying for 1961 and Hendricks also earned the Best Jazz Vocal Performance, Male GRAMMY for 1985 for his contributions to the Manhattan Transfer's 'Another Night In Tunisia.' His poetic lyrics and inventive singing had an undeniable influence beyond the jazz scene. Jon will be missed, but his legacy will live on forever. Our sincerest condolences go out to his family, friends, and collaborators during this difficult time."
