It's not who you know, it's WHOM YOU KNOW and we know Prashant, his fabulous wife Sonal, and his fantastic creation, Aahar, one of our most favorite restaurants in Downtown Manhattan just steps away from City Hall. "Prashant for Mayor!" says Peachy.
Aahar became a Peachy's Pick early this year, and was the first to advance in 2017:
It was first featured in 2016:

A lot of restaurants come and go in Manhattan, but Aahar isn't one of them. If we publish on a place once only, you can think of them as a one-hit wonder. This season Aahar has earned their third feature, not only because they were the first to turn Peachy on to Chicken Biryani. We began with Pakak Chaat, a cold dish of spinach leaves and chutney. To us, this is the Indian equivalent of a green salad and it is highly convincing. Seasoned chicpea flour, tamarind, dried mango powder, mint chutney, yogurt, and chopped tomato and onions join the spinach leaves and chutney for a terrifically festive dish that will impress you.
From the asparagus vadi, above, a vegetarian appetizer enhanced with tamarind and fresh mint to the incredible Anari Shrimp, the appetizer section continues to boast not only great depth but also tantalizing flavor. The Anari Shrimp arrives in style with pomegranate molasses, which are fabulous.
Meet Mulligatawny Soup!
We do not remember trying this before. It is a satisfying blend of chicken, lentils, coconut and curry leaves that really sets this venue apart. Aahar does have a lot of Indian menu items we'd expect but Prashant, below, also seems to identify dishes that seem unique to Aahar that he puts his own spin on.
Prashant sources his fish from Slavin and Sons, and the seafood at Aahar is incredible. There are not nearly enough seafood restaurants in Manhattan for us so we look to specific cuisines that excel in this realm like Aahar. You must try Lobster Malwani (a region in Western India); it is a lobster tail which is incredibly flavorful and rich in a superlative tomato and onion sauce. Below, meet Tandoori Salmon Tikka. You know Chicken Tikka Masala is akin to spaghetti and meatballs as it is a menu staple; imagine that with salmon! A Salmon filet is seasoned with lemon and black pepper at a medium taste level. Beaucoup de vegetables enhance this.
Peachy is absolutely pro-carbohydrate, especially when it comes to Garlic Naan (the garlic bread of India) and Onion Kulcha (similar, but stuffed with onion). These at Aahar are among the very best in Manhattan.
You may not pass GO and collect $200 without trying the Chicken Biryani!
