A look at the 2018 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic® “By the Numbers.”
2 – Both the Buffalo Sabres and New York Rangers will be making their second appearance in the NHL Winter Classic®. Buffalo hosted the first-ever NHL Winter Classic® against the Pittsburgh Penguins, a 2-1 shootout loss in front of 71,217 fans at Ralph Wilson Stadium on Jan. 1, 2008. New York defeated the hometown Philadelphia Flyers at Citizens Bank Park at the 2012 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic® on Jan. 2, 2012, by a score of 3-2.
2 – The number of Rock and Roll Hall of Famers that will be performing live at Citi Field on Jan. 1. Max Weinberg, who will serve as the house band for the 2018 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic®, and Ace Frehley, who will perform the hit song “New York Groove” before the Sabres and Rangerstake the ice, were both inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014.
9 – Number worn by Buffalo Sabres forward, Evander Kane, who leads the club in scoring with 34 points (15-19-34 in 37 GP) through games played on Dec. 28.
10 – The 2018 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic® will mark the 10-year anniversary of the first NHL Winter Classic® and continues the tradition the League established in 2008 of hosting a regular-season outdoor game at the onset of the new year. Since 2008, the NHL Winter Classic® has been played in Buffalo (2008), Chicago (2009), Boston (2010), Pittsburgh (2011), Philadelphia (2012), Ann Arbor, Mich. (2014), Washington, D.C. (2015), Foxborough, Mass. (2016) and St. Louis (2017).
20 – Number of girls from local Hockey is for Everyone programs in Harlem, New Rochelle and Westchester to participate in shinny hockey on the outdoor auxiliary pond at Citi Field during the 2018 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic®.
22 – Number worn by New York Rangers defenseman, and New Rochelle, N.Y. native, Kevin
Shattenkirk. Through 37 games this season, Shattenkirk leads Rangers defensemen with 22 points (5-17-22), tying him for fourth on the team in scoring through games played on Dec. 28.
24 – The 2018 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic® will mark the 24th NHL® regular-season outdoorgame contested. Of the previous 23 games that have been played, 14 of those have been hosted within football stadiums, eight have been inside baseball stadiums and one inside a soccer stadium.

29 – Number worn by Buffalo Sabres forward Jason Pominville, a participant in the first-ever

30 – Number worn by New York Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist, who has starred in all three of the Rangers NHL regular-season outdoor games (3-0-0, 2.00 GAA, 0.933 SV%); defeating the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2012 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic® 3-2, at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia; the New Jersey Devils by a score of 7-3 and the New York Islanders by a score of 2-1, both in the 2014 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series™ games at Yankee Stadium.
36 – Number worn by New York Rangers forward, Mats Zuccarello, who leads the club in scoring with 29 points (8-21-29 in 37 GP) through games played on Dec. 28.

101 – Dan Craig, NHL Vice President of Facility Operations, hosted an Ice Making 101 field trip for students as part of the NHL & NHLPA’s Future Goals program, an Industry Growth Fund initiative. The students saw the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) concepts they are learning in the classroom come to life during the Dec. 21 field trip at Citi Field.
112 – Concessions stands at Section 112 will serve the Big Apple Loaded Pastrami Fries, a New
York-themed topped French fry stack created by Aramark that pays tribute to the New York Rangers. The dish contains crispy seasoned fries with classic New York City-style pastrami, Russian dressing, Swiss cheese fondue and griddled sauerkraut.
123 – Concessions stands at Section 123 will serve the Nickel City Loaded Buffalo Wing Fries, a
Buffalo-themed topped French fry stack created by Aramark that pays tribute to the Buffalo Sabres. The dish contains crispy seasoned fries with boneless buffalo wings, spicy hot sauce, blue cheese fondue, celery and carrot slaw.
177 – The intrastate rivals have faced off in 177 regular-season games since the 1970-71 season, with the Sabres holding a 196-172 edge in points over the Rangers (BUF 81-62-34—196; NYR 71-76-30—172). In addition, the Sabres and Rangers have met twice in the Stanley Cup® Playoffs, with Buffalo winning both series, including their most recent matchup in the 2007 Eastern Conference Semifinals.

2008 – The year that every member of New York City-based Every Voice Choirs was born. The “Star Spangled Banner” will be performed by this choir to celebrate the first ever NHL Winter Classic® and mark the 10th anniversary of the inaugural game.
2009 – Year that Citi Field, home of Major League Baseball’s New York Mets, officially opened its doors.

17,952 – Approximate square footage of plywood used to build the outdoor rink at Citi Field. At the conclusion of the event it will collected by Recycle Track Systems, Inc. and donated to Materials for the Arts, a Long Island City based program of the Department of Cultural Affairs that supports thousands of non-profit organizations and public schools throughout New York City.
20,000 – Gallons of water needed to create a two-inch ice surface at Citi Field for the 2018 BridgestoneNHL Winter Classic®.
36,151 – Number of youth hockey players currently registered in New York state, according to USAHockey, ranking New York third in the nation. Three New York state natives are on the current rostersof the Sabres and Rangers, including Kevin Shattenkirk (New Rochelle) and Boo Nieves (Syracuse) of the Rangers and Zach Bogosian (Massena) of the Sabres.
54,397 – Total miles traveled by the NHL Centennial Fan Arena, a touring tribute to a century of memorable moments and extraordinary players. The touring experience began on Jan. 1, 2017, reaching all 31 NHL markets throughout the year. The final stop will be in New York at The PreGame at Citi Field for the 2018 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic®.
1,242,276 – Total attendance for the NHL’s 23 regular-season outdoor games, an average of 54,012 per game.
10,000,000 – Since the band’s inception in 1986, the Goo Goo Dolls have sold more than 10 million albums. The Grammy-nominated band formed in Buffalo by longtime Sabres fans will perform during the first intermission of the 2018 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic®.
