Food Network has added an augmented reality experience to its cooking app “In the Kitchen,” available on Android. The new feature allows over 100 million Android users to build and decorate their own virtual cupcakes within their surroundings.

From the main menu of the app, users can scroll past the Shows, Chefs, and My Stuff tabs and select the new tab “AR Fun!” Users can then select their cupcake, resize it to be as big or small as they want, add colorful liners and frosting swoops, add whimsical toppings, and even add text banners like “Happy Birthday,” “Nom Nom,” “Mood” and more to their image. Before sending their creation off to friends on social media or via text message, users can add Food Network-branded and cooking-themed frames to their picture.

“We continue to see huge potential with integrating augmented reality into our cooking experiences,” said Liesel Kipp, SVP of Product and Design at Discovery, Inc. “When users have the opportunity to create or add to their surroundings through this technology, there is no limit to how they can reimagine their own experiences in the kitchen.”

Food Network’s essential In the Kitchen app is home to over 70,000 recipes and is the one-stop shop for all things food. A top recipe app in the food & drink category on the Play Store, users can get instant access to the most-popular show recipes from Alton Brown, Giada De Laurentiis, Ree Drummond, Guy Fieri, Bobby Flay, and many more. Whether users need inspiration for their next meal or are simply looking for a recipe that’s being made on TV, finding delicious recipes from favorite Food Network chefs and shows has never been this quick and easy.
