A Peachy's Pick Since 2014, Dolcino Spring 2018 #PeachysPicks #WhomYouKnow @ManhattanPeachy
The superb Ramo Besi, owner of Dolcino
It's not who you know, it's WHOM YOU KNOW and we are glad to know Ramo Besi, owner of Dolcino. Dolcino earned a spot in Peachy's Picks in 2014:
and it was last featured in 2016:
We were delighted to return and were welcomed promptly with cheese, olives and water with lemon quartered vertically like we like it.
A special when we visited is their spectacular Italian Stracciatella Soup: eggdrop and well-chopped spinach. Its inviting warmth and flavor was fantastic and the hearty, chunky soup hit the spot. Add a little parmigiano reggiano! The warm brothy fragrance will immediately wow you. It does look exactly this good and we never edit pictures:
An appetizer not to be ignored is the Calamari which you can have fried or grilled. We chose grilled because someone here is getting more health conscious. Ramo personally goes to the market four times a week to select this and it's a great way to start your Dolcino experience.
The Grilled Shrimp Salad with baby arugula is infinitely divine from the presentation to the taste. Warm, delicate, fresh shrimp with their tails removed (this is what everyone should be doing! Dinner details matter!) were the right touch to this lightly dressed salad. Cherry tomato and endive also come to this party of nutrition. We can't wait to eat this again.
The pasta selections here are absolutely phenomenal and the best part in Peachy's opinion. The red pasta we selected this visit was the Pappardelle: Flat, wide noodles in homemade veal stew.
Served piping hot, this extraordinary bevy of carnivorous delights with a bit of grated cheese will totally wow you. The sauce is perfection with the mellow tomato with a bright flavor enhanced by delicate petite chunks of veal. The pasta is perfectly al dente. This dish could become habit forming; you have been warned.
Do not let the shade of green fool you! It is totally appetizing. This is Peachy's favorite dish from this review: Risotto al Pesto lived a very short life indeed when in short proximity of Peachy Deegan. Cute little shrimps tumble out with style in a sensational homemade basil sauce. This is also perfect for warmer weather because it is on the lighter side.
The Shrimp Scampi also remains a favorite at Dolcino. Served with fragrant saffron risotto that ups its game, the grilled shrimp combined with the risotto evidence bright, delicious flavor for a solid execution of Shrimp Scampi! Do not miss the sides as the sauteed spinach is gloriously garlicy for the resident garlic monster of Whom You Know, distantly related to the Cookie Monster.
If you are in the mood for a classic, the Chicken Parmigiana is a dinner winner. Pounded perfectly and ideally smothered in mozzarella, the Chicken Parm has superior sauce that is the right touch.
We absolutely adored the strawberries and cream with chambord on top and it is one of the best desserts we have had this spring! You must order it. The cream is made on premises we are told.
Dolcino continues to be Highly Recommended by Whom You Know.
