Fast should be your typing ability, your foot on the accelerator and your reaction time.  Many today live in a world of fast everything that should not be fast from fast casual dining to the latest disposable outfit that will fall apart made overseas of inferior quality. This is sad. You should be wearing Paul Mayer, eating at Flinders Lane and wearing Couture Knit.  People that compromise quality are not the target audience of Whom You Know, dedicated to quality in every realm coming up on a decade. We will not delve into philosophers discovered in Peachy Deegan's Perspectives class at Boston College (double credit: Philosophy and Theology) but you know it is going to be quality if you make it yourself!

A time-honored tradition of the Celtic Isles and mainland Europe is knitting, and it is one of the hottest hobbies out there worldwide. Having a hobby is important, and Sir Rod Stewart spoke on this topic at the 92nd St Y with Hoda Kotb a couple of years ago-his is model trains but you never know when he will knit himself a green and white Celtic sweater?

If you can knit and purl and read, you can do cables. With more than 150 Stitch patterns, Norah Gaughan’s Knitted Cable Sourcebook is great for all levels of knitters as she explains everything well. The patterns evaluated were accurate (believe it or not, this is not true of everything in the wide world of publishing) and they are complete with proper verbiage behind it. Also, detailed grid charts are included and she explains how to read them.

Her word choice is appropriate and in writing such a book of instruction, Gaughan achieves a level of clarity few reach which makes this book a winner.  All of the pictures are shown in a khaki which is uber-classy.  We might have preferred a little color here and there to break it up but it is a color where you can see the stitches well.

Of course, everyone is going to prefer certain patterns over others but we do believe the diverse nature of content should hit the high marks for everyone looking for new ideas. In choosing patterns you must consider how it will look on a certain item-gloves, hats, sweaters, scarfs and more.

Good thing Norah learned to knit the summer she turned 14 because it will enlighten you.
Norah Gaughan’s Knitted Cable Sourcebook is Highly Recommended by Whom You Know.
Bravo Norah and Abrams!

The first stitch dictionary to focus solely on working with cables is here: Norah Gaughan’s Knitted Cable Sourcebook: A Breakthrough Guide to Knitting with Cables and Designing Your Own (Abrams; October 11, 2016; U.S. $29.95; Hardcover). Written by pattern designer extraordinaire Norah Gaughan, this new book is not only a stitch dictionary and project collection, but also a revolutionary guide to understanding how knitting one cable leads to the next—giving readers the confidence to invent their own cables.

A treasure trove of cable stitch patterns for the modern knitter, Norah Gaughan’s Knitted Cable Sourcebook presents a whopping 152 cable stitches, along with fifteen beautiful garments. The author uses her conversational method to explain her never- before-published principles for both general pattern and cable design.

Each stitch pattern is presented in both written instructions and charts. Projects can be made with either a very basic stitch, or readers can choose to incorporate a more elaborate stitch using Gaughan’s easy-to-follow Stockinette Stitch Equivalent system, which makes mixing and matching cables simple. It tells you how many stockinette stitches are needed to achieve the same width as the cable in any weight yarn.

Projects include a gorgeous sideways pullover, a stunning cloche, an extra-long scarf, a wrap/poncho combo, a hooded balaclava, and more. New knitters will appreciate the
introduction to knitting with a guide to choosing yarn and needles, along with cable terminology, a guide to reading charts, and symbol anatomy.

Whether brand-new or been-around-the-block, knitters of all skill levels will refer to
Norah Gaughan’s Knitted Cable Sourcebook again and again!
