BookExpo and New York Rights Fair (NYRF) today announced a multiyear partnership agreement for the joint management of the New York Rights Fair, formalizing the parties’ strategic vision for the future of the shows. With the success of the inaugural NYRF and the success in reimagining BookExpo in 2018, this new partnership will enhance the publisher, agent and author experience in an effort to better service the global publishing community.

BookExpo and New York Rights Fair are currently administering surveys of this year’s participants to ascertain the shows’ respective strengths and better evaluate future opportunities for continued improvement and growth. After analyzing the survey results, BookExpo and NYRF will determine the 2019 structure of NYRF, as well as its location. The team anticipates announcing these details later this month after the customer surveys are completed and analyzed.

“With BookExpo, this multiyear partnership agreement ensures that the New York Rights Fair, with New York City as its home for the foreseeable future, continues to grow and to serve the international rights community,” said George Slowik, Jr., president of NYRF and co-owner of Publishers Weekly.

“The New York Rights Fair is the perfect complement to BookExpo, in that both are shaping and reshaping the U.S. publishing landscape,” said Ed Several, Senior Vice President, Reed Exhibitions, owner of BookExpo. “Rights are important; retail is important. Working together, we go forward to continue to expand the industry and the opportunities associated with it.”

“Bringing together the international community was the core mission, and we accomplished that in year one of NYRF,” said Marco Momoli, commercial director of BolognaFiere, co-owner of NYRF. “Now we build upon that initial success with a trusted partner that is well-respected by the U.S. publishing industry.”

Jon Malinowski, president of Combined Book Exhibit, co-owner of NYRF, said, “NYRF this year was a starting point. From here, we can only grow. With the new partnership with BookExpo, together we benefit from each other’s experience and expertise.” He noted that the inaugural NYRF hosted exhibitors and agents from 19 countries and approximately 3,000 visitors, including many who visited from BookExpo.

“Both parties are committed to providing a seamless, comfortable and professionally rewarding experience for fair exhibitors and attendees,” said Slowik.
