For the 17th anniversary of September 11, EarthCam is sharing its new 8-year time-lapse movie of a building that serves as a reminder of the strength and resilience of the American spirit: 3 World Trade Center. From May 2010 to September 2018, EarthCam’s ultra-high resolution webcams documented each stage of the construction process, moving vertically with the building and archiving nearly 2 million megapixel images.
The 80-story tower stands 1,079 feet tall, making it the second tallest building in the WTC complex and the fifth tallest building in New York City. This new movie is part of an ongoing effort to document the progress made in rebuilding this significant site. Viewers will watch as the new tower rises in lower Manhattan and witness the yearly Tribute in Light, a glowing memorial to the World Trade Center that is illuminated from dusk on September 11 until dawn on September 12.
EarthCam continues its dedicated effort to document the rebuilding at the World Trade Center site. In 2001, just days after the attacks, EarthCam CEO & Founder, Brian Cury, personally installed the first camera to webcast the rescue and recovery for the world to see. Millions of photos of the rebuilding plus the original camera are part of the National September 11 Memorial Museum collection.
Watch and share EarthCam’s tribute time-lapse movie of 3 World Trade Center.
A new 8 year time-lapse of the Flight 93 Memorial, including the Tower of Voices, has also been released and is available here.
