Next Landmark Natural History Series From Emmy-Winning Producers of Planet Earth II and Narrated By Recent Emmy-Winner Sir David Attenborough
Dynasties Premieres January 19th on BBC AMERICA, AMC, IFC and SundanceTV
Announced today, BBC AMERICA’s upcoming five-part co-production Dynasties will premiere on Saturday, January 19, at 9:00pm ET/PT, as an AMC Networks simulcast event across BBC AMERICA, AMC, IFC, and SundanceTV.
Presented by world-renowned naturalist and recent Emmy-winner Sir David Attenborough (Blue Planet II, Planet Earth II) and executive produced by Emmy-winner Mike Gunton (Planet Earth II), Dynasties follows five of the world’s most celebrated but endangered animals, as they do whatever it takes to survive and protect the next generation.
The AMC Networks Blue Planet II simulcast premiere event in January 2018 ranked as the most watched nature program on ad-supported TV in eight years.
Sarah Barnett, President of BBC AMERICA, said: “Dynasties tells stories about nature that rival the best dramas on television today: there is suspense, characters you’ll deeply root for, along with heartbreak, humor, nobility and joy. This is next-level nature documentary storytelling that reminds us we are all connected to the beauty and life of our shared planet. BBC AMERICA is proud to build off this year’s successful Blue Planet II premiere simulcast to now create a five-week multi-network television event for the start of the new year.”
Pressure is mounting on some of the most iconic species in the world, as their environments face destruction and change.
This series will focus in never-seen-before detail on one particular family from each species per episode:
Chimpanzees on the edge of the Sahara in Senegal, West Africa
Emperor penguins in the frozen wastes of Antarctica
Lions on the savannahs of Kenya’s Masai Mara
Painted wolves on the floodplains of the great Zambezi river in Zimbabwe
Tigers in the jungles of Bandhavgarh, India
BBC Studios’ Natural History Unit has painstakingly filmed them over four years in a new landmark format as they play politics, fight battles, make alliances, launch take-overs, battle rivals and win family feuds.
Dynasties will show perhaps the most intimate and intense stories of their kind that have ever been captured before, showing both the immense difficulties of leadership in nature and the relentless determination of animals to protect their families. They face unforeseen challenges not only from within their species and their rivals, but from changes to their environment, and the impact humanity has had on our fragile ecosystem that will ricochet throughout generations. The series will tell the unique and emotional stories of some of the greatest families in nature through the inimitable lens of BBC Studios’ Natural History Unit.
Dynasties is a BBC Studios Natural History Unit Production for BBC One, co-produced with BBC AMERICA and France Télévisions.
