#NewYorkNotes #WhomYouKnow @nyphil JAKUB HRŮŠA TO RETURN TO THE NEW YORK PHILHARMONIC JANÁČEK’s The Cunning Little Vixen Suite PROKOFIEV’s Piano Concerto No. 3 with Pianist SIMON TRPČESKI RIMSKY-KORSAKOV’s Scheherazade January 10–12, 2019
Jakub Hrůša will return to the New York Philharmonic to conduct Janáček’s The Cunning Little Vixen Suite (arranged by Charles Mackerras); Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3, with Simon Trpčeski as soloist; and Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade, featuring Concertmaster Frank Huang in the concertmaster solos, Thursday, January 10, 2019, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, January 11 at 2:00 p.m.; and Saturday, January 12 at 8:00 p.m.
Frequent collaborators, Jakub Hrůša and Simon Trpčeski gave a critically acclaimed performance of Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3 with the Los Angeles Philharmonic in 2013, of which the Los Angeles Times wrote: “Hrůša proved an engaging maestro…. Trpčeski is a remarkable pianist, smartly blending restraint, sense of tonal color and knowing when and how much to unleash bravado, in measured doses.” Simon Trpčeski won the Diapason d’Or award for his 2017 recording of Prokofiev’s Piano Concertos Nos. 1 and 3. The Guardian wrote: “In the hands of Simon Trpčeski both really crackle: fiery articulation, brazen rhythms, an ability to navigate corners with a swagger that feels sturdy and nimble at once.”
Jakub Hrůša led an acclaimed performance of Janáček’s The Cunning Little Vixen at Glyndebourne in 2016, of which The Times wrote: “The drama is magnificently focused by Jakub Hrůša’s conducting … Hrůša finds countless absorbing details and treats the whole score … as one luscious tone poem.”
Jakub Hrůša will conduct the New York Philharmonic’s Young People’s Concert “Animals into Song — The Cunning Little Vixen” on January 12, 2019. Hosted by New York Philharmonic Teaching Artist Justin Jay Hines, the program will include The Cunning Little Vixen Suite.
The New York Philharmonic will offer an allotment of free tickets to young people ages 13–26 for the concert on Friday, January 11 as part of Philharmonic Free Fridays.
