Ravioli with Ricotta and Spinach in a Butter and Sage Sauce, Peachy's FAVORITE.
It's not who you know, it's WHOM YOU KNOW and we know and LOVE SPIGA!
Spiga to Go is today a proven takeout sensation taking Manhattan. It is the only restaurant we have ever reviewed that has RESURRECTED! It's restaurant Easter! Last year, Spiga was featured just as soon as we heard about it:
and we most recently featured it last summer:
Tomorrow's Ash Wednesday so you should be celebrating with our personal restaurant Easter!
We began with the Insalata Di Arugula Con Pere E Pecorino Toscano: Arugula Salad with Pears and Tuscan Pecorino Cheese, a bastion of elegance and quality ingredients. These pears are sliced with such skill you will wonder how they got them to be so beautiful and camera-worthy. And, then you will delicately devour them because they are delicious.
A hot little number that you should start with is the Alla Parmigiana!
Again, Spiga proves that less is more with its innate talent for making simplicity emanate excellence. You will absolutely revel in the hot tomato and eggplant dream that just dazzle in that wonderful cheese, and obviously cheese remains our favorite vegetable. In our history you will remember that we have been working with Luigi since 2012 and this is the newest incarnation of Spiga. It cannot be beat in terms of pure takeout food and they are killing their competition on the Upper West Side.
Our favorite is the Ravioli with Ricotta and Spinach in a completely intoxicating butter and sage sauce that will reel you in hook, line and sinker into your welcome Spiga addiction. WE LOVE THIS PASTA. Words do not do it justice! It is amazing in every bite and the sauce is unique and perfect.
Another convincing pasta selection is the Orecchiette with chicken sausage and broccoli rabe. The sausage is 100% CHICKEN and you will be impressed by the taste level and the fact that it is a clucker, i.e. chicken for those with a humor deficiency. Fresh from Luigi's pals at Ottomanelli it ups the quality of the pasta and broccoli rabe, which adds a color and nutrition lift to this dish.
In the freezing days of winter, there is nothing like a good Italian red sauce.
And it's not good at Spiga; it is GREAT.
Pasta glamour shots!!!
A classic, Paccheri Alla Norma is a winner with its jumbo rigatoni with eggplant, tomato and dried ricotta. It absolutely hits the spot on a cold winter's day, like today. Also, perfectly al dente!
Even the ceiling is gorgeous at Spiga, you will notice.
All salmon is not the same.
Some is just superior!
Potato-crusted salmon is truly a work of art as it luxuriates in a puree of bell peppers and zucchini. Super fresh, this fish will wow you in every bite and we love that grilled zucchini, another artful presentation.
If you have not yet experienced Luigi's Saltinbocca Alla Romana Con Patate e Spinaci, all we have to say is WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR.
This dish is a rare entree amongst Manhattan menus; veal saltimbocca (with prosciutto on top and sage) parties with potatoes and spinach in a carnivore's dream.
Pictures speak louder than words:
Yes. Order it. And save room for the Tiramisu which is extraordinary.
Someone told us it was so good, it was illegal.
Panna cotta with mixed berries is even better! It boasts the perfect vanilla finish.
Spiga To Go continues to be Highly Recommended by Whom You Know and we can't wait to see what our pal the uber-talented Luigi Corea does next.
