Once upon a time there was a girl that worked in the gorgeous tower of 9 West 57th Street who looked forward to dinner every day. Eating dinner was not her job then, but often she went to Angelo's Pizza close by. Now you know dinner IS her job and recently she walked by Angelo's Pizza because she wondered what happened to it. This time she happened to be near its Second Avenue location, which is the one we visited. She was absolutely delighted to meet General Manager Vasil Tsarvulanov who did spectacular work this visit with District Manager Gus Manasis. We found their pizza to be just as great as we remembered and we look forward to learning more in reviews to come.
Angelo's Pizza does look exactly as great as above and you know we never edit our pictures.
We particularly like the pepperoni of this company.
From reading their menu, it looks like Angelo came to the USA in the late 1930's so alas, Peachy is born too late to talk to him about his food. We would agree with him that there are few places that can make what we would call real pizza (see menu for story) and if we think you make great pizza, we write on you. If not, we don't.
We began with the lovely Insalata di Arugula.
The Arugula/Endive Mix is terrific with radicchio and particularly stand-out are the sundried tomatoes. Shaved parmesean cheese is obviously our favorite vegetable here and the thinness of the slice is gorgeous. They listened and put the honey vinaigrette on the side for Ms. Pretty Picky.
The red pasta we opted for is found under their Signature Dishes: Lasagna di Casa. Crafted with a 60/40 mix of Beef to Pork respectively, this delicious wonder boasts layers of bolognese, bechamel sauce, parmesean cheese and naturally, fresh pasta. It is comforting in every bite and we adore the classics. Of course.
Equally excellent as the pizza this visit was the Fettuccine Alfredo e Pollo, which is a totally spectacular rendition of Chicken Alfredo. The white fettuccine is perfection with the sliced chicken that absolutely waltzes in the creamy decadent alfredo sauce to-die-for. We can't wait to eat this again and there are not many places that do this so well.
Finally, the pizza lived up to our memory.
Looks like Peachy was too excited to eat it below to wait for the flash.
We ordered the red 17 inch, which is large here, with the toppings of mushrooms, onions, pepperoni and mixed fresh roasted peppers. The crust, the sauce, the mozzarella and all of the toppings were incredible quality and superlative in tandem. Angelo's Pizza on 1043 Second Ave did great work and we look forward to seeing what they do next!
