The Fix
The temperature is rising outside, and it's no different on the pages of David Baldacci. It is prime time beach reading season and even if your beach is your bathtub, murder makes waves in all of his great works that are sure to keep you entertained and brighten your day when frankly the news is not.
Even Amos Decker is on vacation, but wait until you see his idea of a vacation. Trouble won't give him a break, and he and his partner Alex Jamison have left the swamp of Washington DC and are in the midst of blanket bliss with little niece Zoe when even in the backyard, you're not safe. As usual, there's so much more than meets the eye and in tandem the Baldacci style and Decker danger are off to the races in this page-turner installment of the Memory Man series.
Never in our life did we ever think basic safety would become a political issue, but here we find ourselves in New York right now that is pure chaos and totally lacks respect for authority, law and order which all in the land of common sense hold dear. It was so refreshing that Amos has to explain to Alex what a pig is. Up wtih the NYPD and the law and order on these pages! For anyone that challenges authority, you should read this series for what you will learn alone, and it will instill respect in you for their intelligence, dedication, talent and hard work.
This is a well-woven plot, and the multiple tragedies are seemingly unconnected, but as always, it doesn't meet the eye until the end and you'll never guess the unbelievable tale's turnout. The cadence of the quill of Baldacci is perfection and the characters are also striking.
From where we sit, Stanley Nottingham in his polka-dot pajamas (see he is covid style pre-covid!) is among the best characters with his Manhattan background of fashion over fifty years...and sometimes you talk to your neighbors. Finally, for all that appreciate a good treasure hunt, keep reading.
The Fallen is Highly Recommended by Whom You Know.
David Baldacci has been writing since childhood, when his mother gave him a lined notebook in which to write down his stories. (Much later, when David thanked her for being the spark that ignited his writing career, she revealed that she’d given him the notebook to keep him quiet, “because every mom needs a break now and then.”)
David published his first novel, Absolute Power, in 1996. The feature film adaptation followed, with Clint Eastwood as its director and star. In total, David has published 41 novels for adults; all have been national and international bestsellers, and several have been adapted for film and television. His novels are published in over 45 languages and in more than 80 countries, with 150 million copies sold worldwide. David has also published seven novels for younger readers.
A lifelong Virginian, David received his Bachelor’s degree from Virginia Commonwealth University and his law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law, after which he practiced law in Washington, D.C.
In addition to being a prolific writer, David is a devoted philanthropist, and his greatest efforts are dedicated to his family’s Wish You Well Foundation®. Established by David and his wife, Michelle, the Wish You Well Foundation supports family and adult literacy programs in the United States. In 2008 the Foundation partnered with Feeding America to launch Feeding Body & Mind, a program to address the connection between literacy, poverty and hunger. Through Feeding Body & Mind, more than 1 million new and gently used books have been collected and distributed through food banks to families in need.
David and his family live in Virginia.
