That season was the first to pause for NHL players to participate in the Olympics, prompting a 17-day stretch without games (Feb. 8-24, 1998).

Miscellaneous
Does the NHL track the outdoor temperature on game days?
No, aside from outdoor games.

How will streaks be handled during the 2020 Stanley Cup Qualifiers and Stanley Cup Playoffs?
Player and team streaks will not carry over from the regular season. However, streaks will carry from the Stanley Cup Qualifiers into the Stanley Cup Playoffs. And finally, streaks that began in a previous playoff year will continue into the Stanley Cup Qualifiers (e.g.: Longest Point Streaks, Multiple Playoff Years and Most Consecutive Playoff Appearances).

Who were the first players in NHL history to score a goal in each month?
There have been goals scored in NHL regular-season and playoff games in 10 of 12 calendar months, with that total set to rise to 11 of 12 when the Stanley Cup Qualifiers begin Aug. 1. In cases of multiple games starting at the same time, the tiebreaker was given to the earliest elapsed time.
