New York is back and it's never been better than at Neary's.
We were beyond delighted to return home to the brainchild venue of Manhattan's Mayor of 57th Street and America's County Sligo, Jimmy Neary, Original Owner Continuously Operating since St. Patrick's Day 1967. We cannot WAIT for their 60 year anniversary.

Not even an epidemic can keep Jimmy Neary down and in our shared philosophy of ever to excel, Jimmy Neary did not sit on his laurels during covid AT ALL. He went in every day to make his restaurant better. And yes, everyone working here has been vaccinated. Their opening night was April 5, 2021 and even Mayor Bloomberg was here then.

What did Jimmy do? We love the new paisley Ralph Lauren wallpaper: that's new. There are new ceilings, new lampshades from Australia, new tables and chairs and the hanging pictures are now all laser straight. All new aluminum stainless steel from ceiling to floor is in the kitchen. The bar was sanded down to its natural mahogany; it is original to Neary's three decades ago and now it has been stained with five coats. Finally, recess lighting was added in the bar area and cumulatively all looks absolutely spectacular. This is what the best do: they get better.
We have been singing his praises since we were aware of Neary's and Jimmy in 2010.
We began with the classic salad and they always ask guests if you would like onion and also if you would like freshly ground black pepper. Peachy always wants both and we were delighted to meet another new edition to the team, Olivia Montague from County Tyrone. The salad is eternally classic and they put dressing on the side which is exactly how we like it.
As much as it is a comfort for certain elements to stay constant, it is equally exciting to see change and the biggest change is now the third generation is working at Neary's and they could not be more proud of Briana Neary, Jimmy's granddaughter. A power forward for Salve Regina's women's basketball team measuring in at 5'11" is Briana Neary! Her favorite dish is sirloin steak with mashed potatoes.
Fish and chips is perfect for summer and though you can have it as an entree we asked for it as an appetizer: it was perfectly golden, crisp and delicious. Fish is sourced from the vendor Jolee, and for our fish entree we chose Filet of Sole which arrived in style beautifully breaded stepping out with their artisan tartar sauce. Asparagus was a nutritional asset to this dish and of course it added our favorite color, the color of the Shamrock.
Neary's answer to London Broil is of course DUBLIN Broil! Sirloin steak with decadent mushroom gravy absolutely hits the spot, especially when it is successfully joined by mashed potatoes.
