Yeah!  I made it to Broadway and commissioned a new sweater by Couture Knit and had it professionally cleaned by Hallak just for the occasion!
You bet I took notes.
Right from the open with my signature song, Winnie the Pooh: The New Musical Adaptation proves to be the perfect cheer-me-up as we all go into our second year of the covid misery. Is it over because covid does feel like forever...but you need to escape and get out and have fun! It is just like real life with the blustery day with actual falling leaves and snowy days with falling snow! And unlike the snow that can stick around in Manhattan, this snow was white, bright and clean! The flowers even grew for spring. And you don't have to rake or shovel. Every character proved to be a winner and true to the way A.A. Milne wrote it which is exactly what I had been hoping for!

Real-life themes of friendship are celebrated and all will revel in the sincere simplicity and joy that is conveyed right off the stage personally to you in the audience.  Piglet shows us how we all have to work together on problems.  Maybe Piglet should run for Congress or be President.

Pooh of course was my favorite. What do you want me to say: my mannerisms were correct and I had the perfect sense of optimism and joy. However, I must say that Piglet stole the show with his wonderful antics and spot-on stutter as he flew across the stage with style and merriment. Owl also flew across the stage in swooping fashion and all of the puppeteers/actors were triumphant in honoring the essence of their respective characters. They really put their heart and soul into their performances. All choreography was excellent and it was such fun to see me and my friends come to life.  I hated having to sit in my chair both times during the Tigger song because it was so infectiously terrific or rather Tigger-ific I wanted to join in.  

The scenery was phenomenal and the set designers did their job well. We loved the trees, the bridge, the stream, Rabbit's garden and MOST OBVIOUSLY, THE HONEY TREE. In fact if you saw me I sat exactly right next to the honey tree and it was hard for me to behave and not pop in there myself. I will tell you that when my onstage character got stuck in it it kind of looked like Peachy on a dinner review.  The lighting was excellent and additionally there is not a bad seat in the house.  Every vantage point was spectacular.  It is big enough where you have your own space but small enough where you feel inclusion and not like a number in a crowd.

The whole show is done in one act and there is no intermission so do go to the loo first. Everyone presented vaccination cards and id so we felt very safe (I serve double duty as Peachy's bodyguard) and we were impressed with the high level of ventilation inside.  Our small criticisms of the show are that I prefer my red shirt to say my name POOH lettered on it and we are pretty big on authenticity and would have liked Christopher Robin to be British because he is British.  Plus we like that accent a lot.
If winter is not fun enough for you, clearly you haven't seen my show yet. Get away from your screens (unless of course you're glued to Whom You Know) and scurry over to West 42nd Street's 100 Acre Wood. This is for children of all ages! If you think you're too old you are not fun enough for us.

For you it might feel like forever since you've been to see a great production in person: turn that around now and see my show!

New York: Disney’s iconic Winnie the Pooh, Christopher Robin, and their best friends Piglet, Eeyore, Kanga, Roo, Rabbit and Owl (and Tigger too!) will all arrive on stage in a new beautifully-crafted musical stage adaptation. Disney’s Winnie the Pooh, the new musical stage adaptation, will open on November 4, 2021 at the newly renamed Hundred Acre Wood Theatre at Theatre Row (410 West 42nd Street).

The new show will feature the Sherman Brothers’ classic Grammy Award-winning music with additional songs by A.A. Milne. In a new story from the Hundred Acre Wood, this fresh stage adaptation is told with stunning life-size puppetry through the eyes of the characters we all know and love.

Winnie the Pooh: The New Musical Adaptation has broken theatre box office records for largest advance in its history and is developed and presented by renowned family entertainment creator Jonathan Rockefeller (whose spectacular puppetry is omnipresent in the acclaimed productions of The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show and Paddington Gets in a Jam).

A leader in family entertainment, Rockefeller Productions announces one of the country’s most thorough and considerate safety protocols for their highly anticipated new musical which includes keeping in line with current CDC and industry safety standards, all patrons will be required to wear a mask inside the theatre, and every person 12 + will be required to show proof of vaccine before entering the theatre. Those under 12 years old will be required to show evidence of a negative PCR COVID test within 3 days of the performance or a negative COVID rapid antigen test from a doctor or testing site within 6 hours of performance.

Rockefeller Productions has made testing free and easy as they have partnered with Dr. Karen Thornton to provide free rapid on-site testing directly outside of Theatre Row up to 1.5 hours before curtain time. These safety measures are the most complete and thoughtful plan to bring audiences back to the theatre with confidence.

The cast and creative team includes Jake Bazel (TV: “Sesame Street”, Off-Broadway: Paddington Gets in a Jam ) as Pooh, Chris Palmieri (TV: Emmy nominated “Snug's House”) as Tigger, Kirsty Moon (Rockefeller Productions’ The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show, Paddington Gets in a Jam) and Kristina Dizon (National Tour: Sesame Street) alternating the roles of Piglet/Roo and Kanga, Emmanuel Elpenord (Rockefeller Productions' The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show) as Eeyore, Rabbit & Owl, Kaydn Kuioka, Max Lamberg and Cooper Lantz share the role of Christopher Robin and Sebastiano Ricci is the understudy. The creative team includes, Jamie Roderick (Lighting Design), Lindsay McWilliams (Costume Designer), Nate Edmondson (Original Music and Orchestrations) Matthew Lish (Lead Puppet Builder), David Goldstein (Set Designer) and Hannah Delmore (Production Stage Manager).

ABOUT THE SHOW


Winnie the Pooh has been enjoyed by millions of readers and viewers ever since English author A.A. Milne first chronicled the adventures of Christopher Robin’s friends in the Hundred Acre Wood in 1926. The books, featuring illustrations by English illustrator E.H. Shephard, have sold over 50 million copies worldwide. The theatrical rights to the Pooh stories were acquired by Disney in 1961, with an original intent to produce a feature film, but after production began, Walt Disney decided to make short featurettes instead. The three featurettes were subsequently incorporated into the feature The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. This was the last film in the Disney canon in which Walt Disney had personal involvement. The first featurette, Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree was released during his lifetime, while Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day was still in development. Disney’s Winnie the Pooh has since become one of the best-loved and most successful franchises in history.

The Sherman Brothers are the multi-talented Oscar® and Grammy® Award-winning American songwriting duo of Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman. The Sherman Brothers wrote more motion-picture musical scores than any other songwriting team in film history. Among these are the Disney classics Mary Poppins, The Jungle Book, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, and The Aristocats. The Sherman Brothers worked directly with Walt Disney on the first two Winnie the Pooh featurettes: Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree (which garnered a Grammy Award nomination) and Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day. The brothers won a Grammy Award for the third featurette: Winnie the Pooh and Tigger Too. All three featurettes were incorporated into the 1977 musical film The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. The duo also wrote songs for Winnie the Pooh and a Day for Eeyore and The Tigger Movie, with their music also featured in the movie Christopher Robin.

Jonathan Rockefeller and Rockefeller Productions embraced the challenge of re-imaging Disney’s Winnie the Pooh for a new audience by bringing it to life on stage in puppet form. The company has garnered global accolades, from critics and audiences alike, for their production of The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show, with 14 productions playing on four continents. An extended run of the show in New York City culminated in Drama Desk and Off-Broadway Alliance nominations, as did their production of Paddington Gets in a Jam, which tours China and the US later this year.
