It's never been who you know, it's WHOM YOU KNOW and though we don't KNOW Rita Wilson we have met her a couple of times years ago on Fashion's Night Out and she is spectacularly nice and genuine. Our favorite thing about Tom Hanks is Rita Wilson, so credit Rita's sparkling personality with this review plus our dozen-year long and counting devotion to the amazing Warner Brothers, our favorite. Back then, Whom You Know was tiny and we were just getting started on Twitter.
So, how does a classic get better? We have spent 13 years and 26,000 posts writing about this and it's practically our thesis of the entire website. A classic gets better by bringing it back exactly as great as you remember but with a twist of even more excellence which is precisely what happened in this edition of The Green Mile.
Because Peachy is competitively IRISH of course the word green appealed to her in the title, but what is different about this edition is that the color is more brilliant than ever. It is particularly brilliant in the use of light, especially in the thunder and lightning scenes.
As we look back on this story which was released to such acclaim initially, we are pensive in its contemplation of the past and how it catches up with you. What goes around does come around.
The Green Mile also addresses such topics as aging, which is more and more relevant today as the baby boomers age, dreams and memories. The touching story will captivate even the most discriminating viewers and for all the legal eagles out there, this centers on capital punishment. And guess who was in Alan Rogers's Capital Punishment class at Boston College...see, this is what you do with a history degree! You can review movies.
It goes without saying that the script is strong and the acting is fantastic, but you knew that before. One favorite is of course Mr. Jingles and the mouse-perspective camera shots and the simplicity of joy in life with the magic of movies, mouse tricks and the ultimate mouse resurrection. If you are also Catholic you will appreciate the reconciliation aspect of this story especially.
The Green Mile is Highly Recommended by Whom You Know.

About the Film:
Nominated for four Academy Awards, including Best Picture, this emotional film about miracles and the power of redemption stars Tom Hanks as prison guard Paul Edgecomb. When John Coffey (Oscar nominee Michael Clarke Duncan), a giant of a man, is brought to death row, Edgecomb and his fellow guards discover something very unusual about him. Convicted for the sadistic murder of two young girls, but behaving almost like a child himself, Coffey seems to have a supernatural gift of healing living things. Expectations are turned upside down and the guards’ sense of humanity is awakened in this adaptation of Stephen Kings compelling novel.
