Joe Lisi was a Captain in the NYPD and spent 17 years with them.

If you are someone that likes to be entertained, you will love Bar Dough and Joe Lisi.

A lot of restaurant owners are total characters as you have discovered on the pages of Whom You Know.

However, Joe Lisi is a PROFESSIONAL CHARACTER as well as being a sparkling personality personally. He is an actor and you have seen him in the Sopranos and Third Watch among other programs.

In fact, Joe Lisi is we believe the only actor we know that owns a restaurant here and one of the few restaurant owners that has made the book review column and maybe the only one to do it outside of a cookbook! The equally fabulous Steve Schirripa mentions him in Woke Up this Morning on page 417-418. Buy it so Willie and Paul Schirripa can track it.

Bar Dough has survived and thrived thanks to the myriad of loyal customers and people that donated over 500 pizzas to the USS Comfort Ship during the pandemic. So not only is Bar Dough delicious and accomplished, they are also NICE. They also delivered pizza to the Javits Center, the Medical Examiner's Office, Police Precints and Firehouses and all of these service people plus members of SAG-AFTRA are eligible for a discount all the time at Bar Dough.

Our favorite edible at Bar Dough is absolutely the fresh mozzarella and ricotta cheese calzone which hits the spot. Pictures speak louder than words and when this is put in front of Peachy, her stomach director shouts: ROLLING! Obviously there is no need to say cut because somehow it magically disappears and they get it right on the first take like Clint Eastwood always does we hear. The Kale Caesar Salad is a terrific follow-up: Baby Kale, Romaine, AMAZING GARLIC CROUTONS (for someone that is not wild about croutons in general, Peachy loved these), flavorful anchovies, and Parmesean Reggiano formed the perfect classic caesar salad which is exactly what we were looking for.

If you seek a salad that is more artisanal in nature, may we suggest the Kale and Spinach salad. Diced Beets, Walnut, Tomato, Cranberries, and Apple amalgamate for a symphony of nutrition to grace your plate. This hits the high notes on healthy and will be a great pal to any pizza or entree you select. And may we commend Bar Dough on the excellent expansion of their menu! Every red-blooded American loves a good burger and there's not one burger at Bar Dough, there's three. We chose the Pizza Burger because Peachy of course is a Pizza Monster. Bar Dough goes beyond the pizza to incorporate marina, mozzarella and pepperoni to transform an ordinary burger into the extraordinary! Pictures don't lie: look at how mouth-watering this beauty is:

It was perfectly medium-rare as we asked and every bite hit the spot.

In fact, as it is obvious that you can read, Willie Schirripa we recommend this Pizza Burger specifically for you because tracking Woke Up this Morning is probably making you hungry....remember everyone, read page 417-418!!!

Another area of the menu to step it up is the Entree Selection: there are four and the Chicken Parmesan jumped out at us! Breaded Chicken, Marinara, Mozzarella, Fresh Basil and Spaghetti await your appetite in a generous portion, and the wine selection, particularly the Cabernet, is excellent. Also, Bar Dough has about the best music at a restaurant we have ever heard!

Well Joey Mullen (best American hockey player to live, fabulous Boston College Eagle, Stanley Cup winner) perhaps you were born too early in Hell's Kitchen. But this gives you a great reason to return!
